Should I plant plum and pear for yard?

I am not experienced with plums and pears and would love some advice. Zone 7a.

I want to plant a couple pears and plums in my yard in the hopes that my family can enjoy the fruit in years to come.

1. Will they produce in only part sun? They can get morning sun but big trees to the west will filter the afternoon light. Also if one were to get an hour more of morning light would you give that extra light to the pears or plums?

2.What is the trade off between standard size trees and semi dwarf? Is it only about final size or are there other factors? Which would you choose and why for your front yard?

3. Any favorite varieties for eating?

Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience.

Fruit trees don't do well without full sun. They struggle. "A fruit tree not vigorously growing is slowly dying".

Would definitely not get a standard plum because they tend to put out other shoots and become a huge tall bush but the plums are awesome. Same thing with pears

Thanks for the advice
