Searching GRIN site

Has anyone found a way to search the site in a way from where the apples were collected or developed?

I would be interested in the Canadian Prairie apples from their research program.

Also if there is any grouping of North Dakota apples.

What is the hardiness zone of Geneva?

Ok, so if you mean where they were collected, then yes.

Follow the link: http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/acc/acc_queries.html
1. type in Apple in the "Common Name" field of Taxonomy.
2. Under the location section, enter Canada in the Country field.
3. scroll to the bottom of the page and on the line directly above the "submit request, clear form" buttons, there is a line that says "Choose number of hits to select" and switch that to the highest number (10000?).
4. Hit submit!

You can play around with the "common name" portion and try out crabapple or prairie crab. Also, make sure you switch the # of hits to the largest number, otherwise you'll only get the first 100 (or whatever number it is on) hits.

Yep do like stu said, that's how I find most of mine. Or find a parent of the apples you want and put that in like Nevis crab

Lee-I found a few where they also used an Elk River, Mn. ionensis strain as a parent.

Did mine work or did I miss the boat with what you were asking?

I entered canada malus in the search box.
Thanks for the help!

I should have explained.... I wanted to know because I wanted to make sure that I wasn't making it harder on myself!
