Scrub Oaks

Anyone have any experience with scrub oaks? Are they worth planting?
Seems like a win win being a shrub that produces acorns.

What exactly do you mean by scrub oaks what species of oak?

I had a failed planting of some scrub oak from the PA Game Commission. I believe those were Quercus ilicifolia. Early in my habitat work so it wasn’t done well. That was about the time everyone seemed real excited at dwarf chinkapin oak. Might have planted some DCO them too.

Gambel Oak, Bear Oak and I think there's one called a California Scrub Oak. Those are some one the ones I've seen so far.
I can't seem to find much information.

I have no experience with any of those oaks. I have just this fall planted some Burgambel oak hybrids so i can’t speak to any of those. The DCO occur on my home place and I’ve had them producing acorns at 5’ tall.

I might try some DCO. Says they produce at 3 years. Anyone know of a source for bareroot seedlings?
