Sad day

A good 3 year old buck
Last Saturday while I was at work my 4 year daughter was on the back porch of your house around 6:30 am and heard something, and went to told my wife and she told her it is probably a bird, my daughter said no mom it not it is a deer and I am going to see , so they walked out by the ditch and sure enough it was a baby fawn stuck in the mud in the ditch. My wife called her dad and he came over and just as it was taking its last few breaths he got it out and tried cpr to resuscitate it but it was to late. My daughter was so upset. And I tell in a few years my daughter will be my hunting partner she love to driving around looking for deer and she can spot them before me a lot of the time!!!!

That looks like a brand new fawn, nature sure can be cruel.
Hope your daughter wasn't too upset and gets over it fast.

The older I get the more these kind of outcomes really affect me. It's ironic but it upsets me none the less.

It was awesome that you did what you could. Very sad indeed. I have rescued a full grown doe from a muddy swamp in the past, she left us bruised, but our efforts were good, even though she didnt make it either. To stressed. She lived for a few hours, but when we came back the next day to check on her, she hadn't moved much, and was no longer breathing. I would do it again anytime.

You tried and that's more of a chance than it had. Ever notice how people that hunt generally have real compassion for wildlife?
I enjoy hunting as much as anyone, but I really enjoy everything that makes use our place, the ones we hunt and don't hunt.

Ditto all of the above... have had a few similar experiences with dying deer and they stick with you for quite a while / can really be haunting. Have had some awful painful tough times associated with beloved family pets as well (Great Danes are my favorite breed but pretty short lived and held enough dying dogs makes me emotional to remember).

Above shared, your post title "Sad Day" followed by the starting words "Last Saturday while I was at work my 4 year daughter..." had me holding my breath to the point that the fawn story was a relief. Nature really can be tough but glad to know your family is ok!:emoji_thumbsup:
