Raccoon trapping

Are you guys setting them next to the trees or burying them?

I bury them. I keep them in a bucket in the sun so flies lay eggs on them, and then bury them about 6 to 10 inches deep, just to keep the birds off them. Never had a coyote dig one up.

Tried setting them next to trees, and they often get stolen or eaten. I recently set a raccoon next to a pear tree with the idea that I would return to bury it. Vultures and hawks ate it down to a skeleton in less than 2 days.

You can also hang them in a tree, but rope costs money.

I prefer to cover them with leaves to hide the smell a bit, but throwing them on top of the soil also works fine. The trees and grass next to those carcasses will have nice dark green leaves the following year.

I have a Montmorency cherry in Ontario that has received 6 or 8 small groundhogs and raccoons since it was planted, and it's a big solid tree that produces a lot of cherries. Definitely my nicest fruit tree.

Some critter stealing all our sunflower seeds out of bird feeder on our deck at night, so I put a camera on it and two fat coons staying until empty. Set a dog proof below it and caught 12 coons in about 20 days. I was little nervous about catching a skunk 5 feet from the house but thankfully it never happened. Have not caught anything for 2 weeks so I pulled it yesterday.
My yard dog which was a squirrel hunting fiest died of old age last summer, now i have moles everywhere and squirrels, rabbits and coons robbing my garden and everything else. I miss that dog

That fat ass, antler challenged buck we called jiggly puff died in some grass 2yrs ago from ehd and last year I couldn't believe how green the grass was in a 12' circle.

And Illinois still doesn't allow raccoon trapping this time of the year. Absolutely insane.

I was just watching the nightly news over at my parents' and they showed the great length the FD went to to rescue a fawn in flood water. And now in a few months that same deer will be sniped by another agency. The land of fruits and nuts.

We are up to 15 coons in less than 2 weeks. That puts us at 27 total for the year.
