Pruning shears

I pruned my pears today and found that my cheapie shears are no longer acceptable now that the branches are getting bigger and bigger each year. Any recommendations on upgrading or will any decent pair from a big box store work just fine? I only have a handful of trees with no plans of growing into a large operation.

Loppers. I have a pair of Bahco loppers from AM Leonard that are sharper than all get out and will cut a branch up to 1" diameter like its butter.

For hand pruning shears I like these bypass shears: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Corona-Bypass-Hand-Pruner/3358124

For larger stuff, I like this bypass lopper: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Fiskars-32-in-Steel-Bypass-Lopper/4363249

There are a lot of quality shears and loppers out there. I'm happy with these. You can find less expensive ones but you get what you pay for. I have a number of old less expensive shears sitting around. There are certainly higher end units out there than I use.

Thanks,

Jack

Thanks guys I check these models out.

Felco for hand pruners.

Bahco for loppers.

Silky saws.

And whatever those extension pruners are that everyone was raving about, I would have to look it up but those are awesome. I pruned about 75 trees today.

Treehopper LLC hand pruners are RIDICULOUS. Will do my delicate pruning but can also take down saplings in a couple twists round the tree. Have made a few videos of past giveaways I've done for em on youtube little search should pop em up!

Corona loppers work well. Broke a wood handle on one, and they sent me a replacement free, no questions asked!

I have a pair of anvil style Felco pruners that I like and I also have some cheaper by-pass Corona that are okay too. But the one thing that I realize that I like in a pruner is a removable cutting blade is a lot easier for me to sharpen. I can put the blade in my Lansky and keep them nice and sharp. IMO, I'd rather have a junky pruner that's sharp than a top-of-the-line pruner with a boogered-up blade.

Felco F2 is the work horse of hand pruners. Buy their diamond coated sharpener and some 3 in 1 oil. You will be good to go for a long time.

We have one of these too and it works well. But not necessarily for the hobbyist:
