Pellet gun suggestions

I've got rabbit & squirrel problems in town. Looking for a good pellet gun at a fair price. I'm thinking a break action, is a gas piston better than a spring piston? Any suggestions?

Gas piston is the way to go!

I have a Czech (or somewhere in that region) made Daisy that's been a good gun, but it's taken some work to get dialed in (trigger was horrible, spring was LOUD, etc). You can make them mostly silent with a single chamber can, and since it's not a firearm, it's completely legal (so long as it can't be mounted to a real gun). They also don't suffer the barrel length issues of firearms, so you can cut the barrel down as short as 6" and not impact the velocity. Mine sounds like an air brad nailer, and it's just the spring noise.

The high pressure compressed air offerings are interesting, but they cost as much as a nice firearm.

I bought my son the Gamo Whisper Recon G2 from Fleet. They go for under $100 and it is rated at 750 fps. With good pellets it has been a tack driver and kills rabbits and chipmunks ease. I took the sight off it and put a scope on it. My son loves to shoot it and so does the rest of the family. It was his favorite until he started shooting the .22

watched a video where a guy uses a micrometer to find the ideal pellets for his gun. slo mo showed he was spot on. may have to try diff makes of pellets to get one shooting best.

I bought a Beeman spring air, break-barrel model some years ago. I got talked into 20 caliber.....which are faster than 22 and hit harder than a 17. I may be one of the few with such a caliber tho. Wears a variable 20x scope. Deadly accurate.....and I've taken some fairly long shots and killed some crows and such.

I wish I had a repeater tho. Saw a new version that was a repeater.....but cannot remember the make, or the details.

I bought a Benjamin Titan NP (.177) a couple years ago, and have no regrets. I think it's rated for 1200 fps. Thing is a tack driver and packs a punch. I have killed about 40 or so Muskrats with it out to about 80 yards with 1 pellet. In low wind it is about as accurate as a 22. A breeze will definitely push that lite pellet off its mark.
Very quit and sharp looking as well. :)

I don't know the price or even if they still make them, but I have one of the old Sheridans that you pump 8 times, and it is awesome. It is deadly accurate and has the power. But, I've had it for years and haven't kept up with what they make now.

Before I purchased I did a fair amount of research on the web. One Of the biggest complaints for any model was the trigger pull. I also ran across some modifications you could make for under $4.00. So I did it to mine. It went from a long hard 2 stage trigger pull to a very short light crisp trigger. Makes you wonder why the manufactures don't do this.

My gamo trigger is awful. You have to pull it about 2 inches it seems and it is not a fluid pull.

Other than that, I like that little air gun. Shot a ton of squirrels with it.

I bet if you do a search you'll find the info you need to get a better trigger or a do it yourself mod.

Never would have even thought to look for a trigger mod on an air gun.

Add it to my list.

Neither did I till I ran across some info on the net. It cost me less than $4 for the parts needed and about 15 minutes to do the job. Night and day difference.

feinwerkbau. sport model. same hole groups. Lots of competitive shooters use this brand. Incredible precision and in my opinion works of art.

Safari 3.png Holy crap.
