If you need some Kieffer I could probably help you out!

Thanks but, I have a great local source for my Kieffer scions. I had a bunch of less known varieties on my list.

That's what I figured, but I felt it wouldn't hurt to offer! :)

Good news.

I knew that awhile back I should have thought to update this thread then.

Do you guys have a link with that update? Looking at the pear accessions, the status shows "available" but there is another note on each page that says "pathogen issue, temporarily unavailable".

Here is what I used, https://npgsweb.ars-grin.gov/gringlobal/search.aspx
You need to type in the name you are looking for such as "Nova Pear" then it pulls up a link to that variety, click on that and it will give you the variety description as well as a button to add to your wants list and then check out like you are shopping at the end of your searches. Allowed me to add the pears I was wanting and then emailed me a confirmation email.

This is my first year ordering from GRIN.......how do the scions arrive, I assume they are well marked with their name and not just the "number" GRIN uses?

For you guys who've requested and received pear scions from GRIN before, did you receive a confirmation email? I got one when I requested apple scions, but not for the pear scions.
Yes

Got my grin pear scions today
Didn't think I would get any this year. Happy they showed up

The USDA is now open for ordering pear scionwood. I planted a dozen pear rootstock last spring expecting to get summer budwood but they didn't offer it this year. All the pears I wanted were labeled not available and the website said they would start accepting scionwood orders in September. I checked just now and see everything I had saved on my favorites list is now available to order. I know what I'll be doing this weekend: checking my list once, twice, three times and figuring how many new trees I could get into the nursery next spring and how many apple trees I can move out to make room and where I could plant pear trees in a year or two.

my apologies for going slightly off topic here but does anyone know how (where?) to order switchgrass and the likes from the GRIN site? Is that possible, I thought i remember reading that at one point they had a small amounts of seed available. Do they have any wildflowers or forbs?

What pears were you going to try? I've sorted the apples out pretty well but haven't dug into the pears any.

Thanks seems like I've had more problems sorting through the pears on grin than the apples. Have you found a way to filter fireblight I know the apples can be.
