In an effort to spread the branch on the left from the central leader, I did this.....

What should I do now?

no big deal- you likely don't need to do anything, but it would probably be smart to bandage it up using electrical tape turned inside out or something similar.

Your set up looks similar to some of my "east texas engineering"
I had a 12 acre pasture with hog wire fencing

Took it down and have used every last T post, foot of fence to cage baby trees

Gratifying

I definitely wrap it with a binder as previously said and I'd probably seal the edges with some kind of tree sealant such toilet bowl was.

Yep, the property had barbed wire fence all around it when we bought it. Had to remove it on one side of the property as that's where our horse pastures are and the wife despises barbed wire. Removed all the wire on the back of our property as it wasn't needed there and used all the posts for my cages. The cages themselves are field fence left over when I added a small pen for our jersey steer.

And thanks guys, I'll wrap it up with electric tape.

Just my 2 cents but I would just remove that limb as well as the other "side" branch at some point. What happened is going to happen again down the road..... probably when the tree is older and loaded with fruit. There is no way you are going to be able to spread that branch angle enough at this point to get a better crotch angle.

I had wondered about that option. I'm guessing I should cut the branch just outside the collar and still wrap the remaining part to seal the split?

I would probably just go ahead and leave the other branch till pruning time next year if the weather conditions allow and remove it then. Gives the tree some "horsepower" to get the roots growing now.

I agree. I'd take a sharp knife and cut from the outside toward the center near the top of the split removing the one side. I'd then wrap budding tape or something like that around the wound to protect it while it heals.

Thanks,

Jack

Thanks for the help guys.

It appears a member of my herd thought I needed more practice fixing broken limbs.

I would have cut the three branches off just below the split to reduce to just the trunk. New buds would grow to start a central leader.
