One Eyed Buck

5 year old buck +
This buck has been hanging around my farm for two years now...Here are pics of him in 2015 & 16. He lost his eye (assume in a fight) last year, but he seems healthy. One eyed Buck-1.jpg

Fighting is a dangerous endeavor.

Off the wall question - well actually ON THE WALL question. When you kill that one, do you have the mount done with a glass eye put in or do you have it done without the eye?

That is good!! I am not sure, but he will probably be on my target list for next year. He avoided the neighbors this year, and they stack in the hunters!!

While I'm sure it just mostly depends on the individual deer I wonder if an injury like that makes a buck even more cautious and therefore harder to kill.

Bwoods, gotta be a one eyed shoulder mount when you kill him. Great story to have on the wall.

looks like he put on some inches this year

I think you mount them like you killed them, missing eyes, broken points, torn ears, battle scars and all! My taxi asked me if I wanted him to "fix" a few things on a deer of mine that has his ear nearly torn in two and some busted points. I told him, "No way, adds character!" Would make an interesting mount.

You can get a hazy, glass eye that gives the blind appearance, I have a customer doing that on a mount this year. I had one last year that was missing the eye completely. The wife wanted it mounted without an eye (she was the shooter) the husband said no way and they had it mounted with 2 normal eyes.

That very well could be. I never saw him all year, until December. It is possible he was never on my farm, but my guess is he has small home range, which extends on to one of my corners. He came for some late season food.
