Here is a persimmon tree in my neighborhood here in NY's southern tier. We often walk by this and I had been admired the paw paw tree right behind it without paying any attention to this persimmon. Last year, I finally noticed all the fruit on it when the leaves started dropping. I finally caught the homeowner while I was walking by last week to ask him about the tree and get permission to take some fruit. He said his wife was responsible for the plantings so he didn't know much about it. He knew that deer keep the drops cleaned up. He said they are moving soon but I was welcome to get fruit and I'll see if I can get scions next spring. A persimmon tree in NY holding fruit so far into deer season is pretty exciting. I'm not aware of any other persimmons around so I would guess this is self-fruitful. Below are a photo from last week and a few weeks ago with a few more leaves.
