Need an apple tree surgeon or expert advise

Okay, I know this doesn't look good. But, I am not willing to give up on this one. This is a tree that I cut back two years ago following an episode of fire blight. I grafted black twig on to it and the three grafts on the opposite side are doing amazingly well - probably 10 feet of growth in two years.

This winter I was going to eliminate all but one graft and then thinking of making a diagonal cut from the top to the outside edge eliminating as much of the damaged tree as possible. Then coating with tree cote. Does anyone have any other great ideas?

Dang this looks worse in a pic than it does in the plot!!!.

I suspect this one is going to die no matter what I do, but I will see what others say.

That is ugly but apples can be tough. I would keep the middle graft and not mess with it otherwise. If you happen to see a nice sucker, graft onto it. Then if the main tree dies or you decide to put it out of its misery, you have something ready for the big root system to push.
