My first graft...kind of

H20fwler

5 year old buck +
This weekend I was watering the too many trees I have in the back yard and somehow snapped off a Golden Russet on P.18 right at the graft!
It looked like a miniature hinged tree, it made me sick after babying it all summer to have this happen, it was a three foot buggy whip when I heeled it in early last spring and had been doing great. I was even planning on moving it to it's permanent location in a few weeks.

After looking at it all I could think of doing was maybe trying to repair it? I have tried to pay close attention to all the threads and tips you all have been posting up on grafting.
I don't have any grafting tape or wax so....I used what I had, electrical tape.

I put it back together as good as I could right back in place and taped is as tight as I could trying to keep out any air pockets. I tied it off to a stake for support and totally expected to see the leaves wilt within hours.

Well here it is over three days later and it still looks fine? I've been watering it good every day and it has been humid and over 90 every day.

Hopefully I got lucky and it might heal? I'm just worried it will be permanently weak, I can keep it supported with stakes for years if I have too.

Id just keep the water to it and keep at the house this winter may be able to move this springnif it heals OK.
