Melons for deer?

Telemark

5 year old buck +
Anyone try this? Internet says deer like melons, but I can't find anything about intentionally growing then for deer. It would be an early season play, but would it work?

I've grown pumpkins for deer, but the effort wasn't worth the tonnage. I grow watermelons that are not fenced in, and I haven't had any issues with deer eating them.

I have pumpkins and winter squash in my cart. Going to try a few varieties, but all of them are late-season crops, and reports are that they can be hit or miss.

I like mellons.... in fact I LOVE MELLONS!!! The wife might say I like them an unhealthy amount, or at least an annoying amount.

For deer I plant pumpkins.
Raccoons love them in east texas

Yeah, I read that raccoons and coyotes will take their share, but I will try to control them a bit, and I'm not worried about them opening up a few. I figure it will help get the sweet melon smell in the air and get the deer to come looking for a sugary treat.

I've watched yotes eat pumpkins. This yr I had rabbits eating them inside the milo plot where the deer weren't going.Screenshot_20260102_151252_Gallery.jpg

What about the fruit kind?

A buddy of mine bought 100 pumpkins and in a few weeks the deer had them gone. Most years a put a few pumpkin seeds around my trees but I've never seen one get bigger than a softball before the deer chow it down. Im in basically a zero ag area.

I used to have a source for pallet boxes of pumpkins and squash after Halloween. I’d bring up heaping truck loads and my tiny population would eat a truck load in two weeks.
