Has anyone used the Federal Fusion Lite or Remington Managed Recoil loads? Any stories both good and bad to share?

My daughter loves the Remington Managed Recoil loads for her .30-06, she shoots a Model 7600 pump action. I have fired them as well and out to 125 yards they hit pretty much dead on where the 180 grain Core-Lokt were hitting. I don't really know beyond that range. Noticeable difference in recoil. We have limited experience with them on game, due mostly to lack of deer to shoot at. :rolleyes:She killed one big doe with them at about 75 yards and it was as dead as if it were shot with a .300 UltraMag. 2 steps and fell over dead. Now that she is in her early 20's, she feels it is time she can graduate to shooting the same rounds as dad, so when she runs out of the 2 boxes she has left, we will try 165gr Core-Lokt's in her gun to see how they shoot, although I don't know why she really wants to change? I thought the lighter recoil was actually kind of nice. She is moving to western SD next month for a 1 year job stint and I think she might be hinting to her uncle in WY that she would like to get out there and do some hunting this fall, so I think she mostly wants the heavier rounds for out there.

I tried the managed recoil in my 300 win mag and was NOT impressed. The recoil was definitely less but the performance was not. In my opinion you're much better off shooting full loads of a smaller caliber if recoil is a problem. Again, just my opinion.

Can you elaborate more on your bad experience? length of shot and what were the results? (i.e. no expansion, etc.) Which bullet do you use? Remington MR or Federal Fusion?

I've used the Managed Recoil in 7mm-08 for my boys at 10 years old during the youth hunt. It makes a difference in terms of felt recoil and their confidence for bench shooting. My oldest took a doe at 120 yards his first year, and it performed well on an almost perfect shot. Last year, my twins both used it. One took a spiker at 70 yards, and there was almost no external blood. Shot was back just a bit, catching some lungs and liver, but luckily it went down in the field. My other one hit a doe broadside at 50 yards. She was hit hard, but probably back just a little bit. No blood, and we never found her.

I have some in .270 that my oldest son used last year, but was holding out for a buck and didn't get the chance so I don't know how that performs in the field. I'll let them shoot up the boxes I have from the bench, but will re-zero and use "regular" ammo for all of them to hunt this fall.
