Although I'm only 34, I'm not in my 20's anymore. My couple acres called for 4 tons of lime per acre. I ordered 8 tons. I guess their loading is not too precise as they sent me 9.3 tons. I thought I would bang this out in one day. Lol. After a few hours of shoveling into the drop spreader I decided to break it up over a few days. Worked out well this way and got it done.
I was worried with the dewy mornings my lime would draw too much moisture over the couple days to work well in my drop spreader. Fortunately even on the third day the lime was dropping well. Although I would like to avoid leaving it sit overnight I now know I can if I have to and it isn't going to rain.
Don't intentionally drop lime around the lime pile since loading and going to the further points will drop lime on the way. The area around my lime pile is going to be on the very high end of the ph scale.
Getting a 10' drop spreader to my small plots on the back end of the property was a challenge. Got the spreader wheel behind a tree and couldn't get it out so I had to cut that tree down. Now I know how to get the spreader back the trail efficiently.
Deer don't mind lime as there were tracks all around the pile and through the edge that was 1 1/2' deep.
My Massey 135 will get a semi-full load of lime through the somewhat hilly terrain without too much trouble. Going up one hill I have to have my speed up a little for momentum as it wants to spin at the low speed. Flat ground I can fill it to the top and it pulls great.
I need to get a toolbox mounted on my tractor. I had to walk to the house 3 times to get tools for minor repairs.
Next tractor (if there will be one) will be 4x4 with good power steering.
