Last weeks wanderings

I hiked back to some old apple trees that I had found last spring hoping to find some late hangers. I got lucky and found two trees with a few apples still hanging on. :) One had a few large apples on that were mealy tasting maybe sauce or pie apples, the other tree had small apples that still were edible with a sweet flavor. Was able to cut a few pieces of scion from each tree to hopefully keep these old unknown varieties alive.

I appreciate a man with a soft spot for old trees.
Excellent job Rick!

Nice finds, Rick !! I always wonder if those OLD trees are seedlings / open pollinated gems - and when they got their start.

Great idea to graft & save them for the future !!
