I really don't like this stuff. There were 2 sprayings before my pollinator planting, and it looked like a desert. The last spraying was with Plateau. It doesn't all look this bad, but hopefully I can get it cut before it heads out.

The Plateau did do a good job in some areas, but there are some spots that had far better rhizome colonies. I may mow it and hit it again in the spring.

I like it in my hayfield but i can understand the frustration of having it where you don't want it. The good news is it can be beat into submission if you are persistent with it.

out of desperation I’ve hit it hard with gly and cleth and gotten good results. It had gotten so high in a neglected plot that I had to mow it first cause it kept snapping the boom arms back. It was ridiculous.

Hate the stuff. Part of our property is a river bottom and when it floods it deposits more seed downstream.
it’s a never ending battle. One we’ve never won.

Best luck I have killing Johnson grass is with Glyphosate based herbicide in September any earlier and it doesn’t kill the rhizomes just knocks them back a bit. I have read Pastora herbicide kills Johnson grass but I have no first hand experience using it. I wait until the grass naturally starts to yellow a bit in fall then give it a good dose of glyphosate that works the best for me.

It's getting mowed in a couple of days down to 8-10 inches, then hit with herbicide (Plateau to protect my natives underneath) right after that. We'll see.

I agree, but I don't think you need to wait a couple of weeks to mow. 48 hours with hot temps should have the plants moving the herbicide throughout in just a few hours.

This johnsongrass is 6 ft tall. It's growing 1 ft per week.

Mow it to prevent it from going to seed and give it a week or two and then spray the crap out of it with a grass selective herbicide or let it grow a bit beyond that and use a weed-wiper to target only the taller JG and leave everything else alone.

Part was mowed then sprayed 1 week later with Plateau. The other part was only sprayed with Plateau. It should be a good experiment. We'll see. I'll just need to stay on top of it.

It's rated for johnsongrass and this is in a pollinator planting. It won't kill those species at the rate applied.

I did some digging as I am always on the look-out for something to help me fight johnson grass in my switchgrass....turns out Plateau is not something they recommend... Everything I find that will tackle JG in switch is $$$$$

Yeah, I don't have switch in my pollinator planting. Outrider is labeled for johnsongrass control in switchgrass.
