Greenbriar tubers (Smilax rotundifolia)

Telemark

5 year old buck +
Anyone know where I can buy Greenbriar tubers?

I really want to get some greenbriar going in the habitat I'm working on in Ohio. I can find seeds online, but they are reportedly difficult to germinate. Some websites recommend propagating greenbriar by separating tubers. Problem is, I've never seen one, so I don't have any wild ones I can propagate from.

I'd like to grow some in a raised bed until I have about 25 tubers and then plant them out in the habitat.

I have them, literally everywhere. The deer love them, but they're the most hated plant on property. They grow under the porch, in the crawlspace under the house. Dead tubers roll around like some kind of twisted alien tumbleweeds in the yard.

DM me and I'll be happy to dig some up next weekend when I'm back at the property and send them your way. I can only offer one piece of advice: be careful what you wish for :)

Edit: It's worth noting - I'm in E. Texas, I assume the species which flourish here may do well in Ohio, but I'm not sure if there are any invasive or overwintering issues. Doubt there'd be any survival issues. We simply can't kill them.

🤣 If I could find a way to turn sweet gum into money, I'd be a millionaire.

Already up to my eyes in invasives. Anything native that deer prefer should be gold in this spot. It's mostly invasive honeysuckle and a lot of Callery pear.
