Fescue Eradication

I've got about 16 acres of fescue I am going to kill. My plan was to hay it in the next couple of weeks, then spray with glyphosate after the first frost. Then, I'd come back in the spring for possibly another spraying. I understand wanting to get the chemical down into the roots for a good kill. But, why wouldn't you want to spray now before all the seed falls on the ground?

I did some experimental spot spraying last year (green fescue in the middle of winter sprayed with gly) and got a good kill. I don't know how reliable that scenario is for you. The only reason I waited until winter was to save some warm season grasses that I had growing there.

We eradicated 20-25 acres a couple of years ago. We sprayed at the first sign of green up at end of march / early April. We were able to get this done in time before the native WSG started to get going. I do think preferred time is late October if you are able to do so. In our area of SW Missouri, the only green thing in the fields during this time is the fescue so it hits it pretty hard.

I think your plan will work.

I spray in the fall and then again the following spring as well.....to kill off any survivors!
