Deer Camp Menu Honorable Mentions

Our camp usually does a big kettle of chili, and a big one of beef vegetable soup so we have quick easy meals / lunches. Cheese steaks w/ fried onions, big roaster of pork & sauerkraut & hot dogs w/ huge amount of mashed spuds, baked ham, pizza's (we buy bulk shells), pies, cakes, etc. are what make up a number of our meals during bear & deer season.

Jealous of all the folks keeping the big camp tradition alive.

Our camp this fall will consist of my father and I. I'm just stoked to get to share another opener together. He plans on making the trip to his tower blind. Wondering how many times he will be up for that. After a bout with cancer and a double hip replacement. Im just hoping for decent weather and some deer movement. Know the 2 usually dont go hand in hand. But hey, might as well shoot for the moon. It will be my first buck tag with rifle in hand in over 19yrs. Just put together a new tikka 6.5 this summer. After a bear hunt this spring. Ready to get back after things with the long gun.

Trying to think of ideas to make it special...

But I'm sure there will be cards, Windsor cokes, and prime rib at the small town pub where he grew up.

^ ^ ^ ^ Enjoy those times with your Dad. Solid gold right there. Best of luck to you both!!!

Nothing quite like a fresh deer heart chopped and tossed in a pan with some butter and onions. We did that last night and tried a liver for the first time. All I can say is I won't be doing a liver again.

We used to have a couple farms right in the corner where MI/OH/IN come together, one of the farms had a big quarry pond on it and we kept an old doublewide on the property for fishing and hunting.
My Dad used to make up a huge batch of biscuits and gravy every morning for our deer camp season opener back when I was a kid.....best I ever had.

Two camps, one in NY and one in PA. Ribeyes the night before season and during season we have crockpots with chili, sloppy joe usually. Canned venison with gravy as an open faced sandwich is probably my favorite camp meal.

What did you get this year? I saw nothing but fawns during gun season.
