Chicken Coop build

Peeps

5 year old buck +
We started building our chicken coop. Now waiting for the steel roof panels to come in. It will also have a pretty big steel roof covered run going off the back side. I’ll keep you all updated on the progress.

That will be a very nice chicken coop. How many birds are you planning on keeping? There is no better way to ensure enjoying $12/dozen eggs than raising chickens :-) Here is our coop. The front half is garden storage and the back portion is the chicken condo for 12 birds.

Get a auto solar powered door, they are great. I put one on my daughters.I also put a run out front and even though it's kind of cheap It was easy to put together and I got it from Garvee. They aren't as fancy as your guys but my wife did paint a giant frog under a tree on the side for my grand daughter. It also is purple and pink.

100% on the automatic chicken door if the birds are allowed out. My first one was battery operated, cost about $200 and lasted three years. A new generation of openers is out that are solar and cheap--this one is $55 and what I am currently using. So far jt has worked pretty good.

We have one of the solar powered door on our coop and it has a timer that you can base on daylight percentage or set a time for it to close..saves alot of effort and I think it was like 40$ on Amazon..

I think my wife said she ordered 20 chicks.

That a good number, and will be about right for your coop. Over the years we have had a good chick survival rate (98% reaching laying age). Keep us abreast of the progress. Enjoy!

I think brooding was the worse part as they stink and get nasty. My daughter had them in a water trough with a lid. As soon as big enough I clipped a wing and they went in coop. They cleaned up and are real tame.My daughter lives in the country on their farm and she wanted to let them out during the day and coop train for night.Everything was good until the coyotes found out. They snatched a couple one day and 4 in the middle of day about a month later.Four coyotes down but still doesn't let them out.
