Celina pear

Telemark

5 year old buck +
Got my hands on some of these this week. I wasn't expecting to see it for a few years, but I found a kilo on clearance for just over a dollar and had to check it out.

Beautiful yellow and red fruits, with excellent smooth texture and juicy flesh. Good pear flavor, but very little flavor. Disappointing as a dessert pear but decent with some brie and crackers.

The fruits have probably been in storage a while. They are reported to be a very early season fruit with good storage potential. They were not in perfect condition, but the brown spots were easy to remove.

This pear was developed here in Norway, so I will try to grow it for myself and for deer. Hopefully it is more flavorful earlier in the season.
