Cabin restoration (Updated 07-14-2022)

This is a very cool project, thanks for sharing! It's a good thing there are folks like you keeping nice things like this around, not always easy when evaluating the money involved.

07/28/2022...Latest progress on log cabin restoration. All carpentry and woodwork is now finished. Next project is for the stone mason to re-chink the logs and rebuild the fireplace.

After much back and forth, I decided to cover the old flooring with new tongue-groove pine flooring in order to make it more useable and seal up any critter gaps that were present in the old flooring. I left the old flooring planks intact and had new flooring put down over the old. As stated earlier...definitely a money pit just to preserve the history of the original logs and flooring. But, once mason finishes and we have it refurnished, I think I'll be glad I completed it. I'll post pics of the article the local paper did on the cabin back in the '70s. Pretty cool story.

Bonus track...Pole barn/Shop is finished except for a little wiring still left to do. 40x26 with twin 14ft lean-to's and one of those poured in concrete to use as a porch. Still have a little trim work left.

Footing poured for rebuild of chimney. I had decided to go with a pre-fab and rock around it to make it look good but after much thought...decided to go back with a masonry fireplace. Just couldn't bring myself to the point of putting a pre-fab in a restored log cabin with original logs that date back well over a century.

Replaced window shutters with new ones and used new pine doors with windows to add a little more light in the interior. I'll post more pics as they build the fireplace.

As for the new barn…had asphalt put down from where I ended it on the service entrance and ran it to the barn.

Thx gwn. I still have some of the old furnishings stored that were in it when I bought this place. Gonna put old furnishings back in place and add to it. Couldn't be more pleased with the way it turned out. I'll update as I continue to add/do stuff to it.

What a great project, looks incredible.
