Bucks STILL working scrape!

H20fwler

5 year old buck +
Pulled cards this afternoon and bucks are still working the big scrape? Every deer that passes through the woods antlered bucks/shed bucks/does/fawns all check in on this scrape religiously.

This is the first time I've ever ran across a scrape like this one, normally from what I have seen over the years most of the bucks work scrapes in the fall and may or may not use them again next year. I have to admit I really haven't paid close attention to big scrapes before, I know that this one has been there at least three seasons.
I was talking to a guy that is a very successful bow hunter that I work with about it and his theory is that once in a while certain scrapes/licking branches are used year round as calling cards for deer?
I know that during rut it was the size of the hood of my truck and now it's maybe half that, first week of January I had at least six different bucks hit it in one day.
My analogy on this particular scrape is that like its some kind of mega scrape, like whitetail deer Facebook or something. I'm going to leave a camera on it all this year to see if it stays active as a check in spot.

Agree!

I was at camp yesterday pruning apple trees and while I was moving around the property, I noticed several scrapes that were freshly pawed with new droppings at them. 64 degrees at camp, sunny, and loads of tracks / droppings around the food plots. I've never noticed scrape activity this late.

I have a scrape on my place like this. I keep a camera on it year around. The deer seem to use it no matter the time of year. Great place to get an inventory of what deer are hanging around your place.

It's funny how deer in different areas act. Seems like our scraps go cold when the rut really starts and that's it until the next fall.

Licking branches on the other hand get hit all year long with no scraping. I wonder if it isn't an age structure thing.??

On mine even yearlings hit it constantly?

Another strange thing with this scrape is the coyotes wanting to lay in it and piss in it....doesn't seem to slow the deer down.

^^^^^ Boy - you would think the smell of yotes would send the deer bolting. Nature's funny.

H20 - You wouldn't, per chance, have a tree stand in that vicinity of the above scrape would you ???:emoji_thinking::emoji_smirk:

Oh heck yea! Thirty yards from it up high, I've watched a lot of deer go through there. Still waiting for the big one to show up and stand still!

I have never in my life seen shed bucks work a scrape until this one, about every deer that goes through the woods hits this one bucks/does/fawns.

You better start bagging the dirt in that thing and selling it.
"Scrape dirt!" Ha,ha.

Actually, it might be worth transplanting some of that smelly dirt to a new mock scrape.

.

Shed buck working scrape like it's the first week in November;

And every deer going through the woods checks in, had dozens of shed bucks does and yearlings stop in;
