Been doing autopsies of deer this year.

5 year old buck +
I’ve never really examined the damage my shot did. Another website had inspired me to look more into the terminal ballistics of my shots.

Yesterday was quartering towards at 50 yards. I shot a high shoulder shot. 6.5prc with federal fusion ammo. 2835 muzzle velocity.

This is entrance. Anterior upper portion of right scapula.

This is where it broke the scapula at my pointer finger.

Exit on the left.

Deeper view of exit. Just posterior of scapula (remember angled toward shot, so just anterior side of entrance scapula and just posterior to the exiting scapula). Was about a 3x3 inch hole on exit side of ribs.

Just good to see what our shots do on the animal.

I've been using Federal Fusion ammo for quite a few years now. I've bought about every box of name brand ammo out there, and bench tested them all from 100-300 yds. The Fusion ammo has been the most consistently accurate ammo I've shot. My rifles are all bolt action, .243, .270, .300 win mag.
Most of my shots are 75 yds or less, so other than seeing the jelly where the vitals used to be, Fusion seems to do a good amount of damage for sure. Only caveat to that is the last buck I shot was quartering to me like yours, but that angle ended up knicking the gut area. I tried to autopsy to figure out if I had some deflection on impact, but couldn't tell.

Same. I’ve tried alot of ammo and fusion just works for me.

Try the new tipped fusion. A little more velocity. Better BC. And the tip causes more consistent lead disruption on impact. Makes an already great ammo even better IMO.

I've had great results with Fusion. I recovered one from a red stag, and it was a perfect mushroom. I'm looking forward to trying the new tipped bullets.
