    TSI/FSI response question

Posted these pics in my land tour thread too - couldn’t be more thrilled with the early results. I aggressively cut and hack and squirted three one acre areas and one half acre area this winter. Took a walk through it today and took a couple pictures.

    Someday Isle - Property tour

Planted food plots three weeks ago (memorial weekend). The cereal rye and durana clover were looking really good so it was kind of painful to disc the clover in but that was the plan. The areas where the forestry mulcher worked last year were much thinner but still had stuff growing. I left a...

    Forestry mulching

Follow up - May 24, 2025. It’s been almost a year since the mulching was done. Yesterday I planted a summer plot mix. In my already established areas I left a few strips of clover, mostly Durand and Ladino. Based on the recommendation of using legumes in the newly mulched areas I had planted...

    What's for dinner?

Always wondered what bear tasted like?

    Forestry mulching

Follow up - the plots turned out great for the fall. I spread a lot of lime and fertilizer and disced everything real well. The Rye has stayed green all winter and is still keeping the deer hanging around (as Rye does). I spread a mix of medium red, ladino, and Durana clover pretty heavy too...

    Habitat experiments for 2025.

Not really an experiment but last year I hired a forestry mulcher for a couple days to expand my food plots.. this year I’ll be working on amending the soil and establishing some late spring/early summer food plots and reestablishing a percentage of my plots in clover. Up until now I had used...

    Lifetime 22LR for a youngster

I’ve got a savage with the accutrigger that’s a really nice shooting rifle and very accurate. My first 22 was a Remington bolt action with the worst trigger of any firearm I’ve ever owned. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I got a little older. I still have it but it just sits there. I...

    TSI/FSI response question

I’m pretty fortunate at this point on my property where I don’t seem to have much of an invasive issue that I’m aware of. A friend owns a farm maybe 20 miles from me and they’re loaded with bush honeysuckle and it’s been a problem for them.

    TSI/FSI response question

TSI/FSI response question. I posted on my land tour thread that I’m in the process of aggressively opening up the canopy in three separate areas approximately one acre each. I’ve done some hinge cutting and lots of hack n squirt and girdle and squirt to remove about 90% of the canopy in these...

    Chainsaw sizing?

Great question. I actually just posted on my land tour that I’m doing lots of chainsaw work right now. I too have an MS 250 for my “Big saw” and a new model MS162 for my “little saw”. I agree that cost is a factor but in response to a question from Bill I also avoid cutting bigger trees by...

    Someday Isle - Property tour

That’s the plan Bill. I was afraid if I dropped the big ones I wouldn’t have as much open space for them to move around. I figure I’ll walk through them every spring anyway and make sure there’s paths for the deer. In fact, I like to take my DR through my thicker areas and make paths for them to...

    Someday Isle - Property tour

I haven’t added to this thread in awhile. Last year I had a forestry mulcher out and expanded my food plots to where I now have about three acres of food plots on my 36 acres. I started another thread showing some of that last summer. With the summer long disruption after the mulcher came...

    That’ll work! Nicely done!

Planting next weekend -still no rain

Well I got everything planted today. I have three acres of plots now. I had a forestry mulcher come out this summer and expand them. There was about an acre and half before. I just have a compact tractor with four foot implements (Kubota b2601) so three acres was more than enough work for one...

Planting next weekend -still no rain

Other than radishes mixed in with my cereal grains I’ve never had much luck with brassicas. It seems every time I plant them we get rain and then a month of heat and no more rain. My visions of a tall, full, brassica plants end up doing nothing - but silly me, I keep trying. Maybe it’s just the...
