Yup, prep is key. Kill the weeds and create a clean seed bed the year prior. Once I kill the weeds I burn the thatch. Frost seeding into round up ready bean stubble also works well. Then frost seed when the snow is mostly melted. I have yet to frost seed mine yet this year. Lots of snow...
