    Red Osier Dogwood

Just a little advice. Those long cuttings you might want to cut them smaller. What I've noticed is you want to have more sticking in the ground so they put the energy into the roots first. What will happen with those long ones is they will take off good, put on lots of leaves but then the roots...

    Red Osier Dogwood

Agree with Telemark. I've never seen ROD with bud spacing that close, atleast in the wild. The second shrubs looks like silky dogwood to me. Try to get a look at the berries this fall rod has white the silky will have blue.

    Red Osier Dogwood

It's crazy how they just disappear. There is no sign they were ever there. I do find random ones here and there thatsome how survived. Last year I pit cardboard down and poked the cuttings thru. It worked really well.

    Red Osier Dogwood

Definitely cage them. I have stuck hundreds of dogwood cuttings on my hunting property by sticking them all over the place with very low success. I finally put about 10 in one 3ft diameter cage and they are about 2 1/2 foot tall in a year. I guess rabbits will wipe the cuttings out also. When...

Stock Market is the bottom in?

Im no expert by any means, but I've heard the mines are running 24/7 to try to keep up and they can't do it. I see where your going, not a bad idea hording some but I don't think the mines are to blame. Now the big banks in the U.S i do believe have alot to do with it. China also, they know...

Stock Market is the bottom in?

Mining companies haven't been able to meet the demand for silver once in the last five years. Silver is the best conductor of electricity. All these data centers are using alot of silver. Im currently working on the biggest AI center in the world. They just got approved to go with 15 more in...

    Unique side hustles?

There are a few farmers that have planted sunflower fields by me. They charge people to go in and take pictures. I can't believe all the people that go there.

    Girlding?

I girdle black locust and boxelder at my places. If you just cut them off they will shoot up root sprouts and stump sprouts. Girdle them and this eliminates the sprouts with no use of chemicals. Usually by the second year they are dead.

    Migrant Fruit Pickers

I had one of those migrants bust off my central leader on a beautiful Norland apple. It had about 20 apples on it. Last time I baited i threw a dozen apples in the bear bait and they were the only thing the bears didn't eat. Thursday my wife and son will be looking for revenge for that Norland. 😜

    Alder shearing/ usda program

The cut area is providing alot more food also. Elderberry are popping up all over in spots they never were. Grey dogwoods are producing white berries. Hazelnuts are also showing on the edges and actually produced some nuts. Lots of goldenrod that the bees are enjoying.

    Alder shearing/ usda program

Late summer update on the alder shearing project. Wow, the regrowth is crazy. Some of the alders are 12ft high. I couldn't be happier this regrowth is really going to benefit many species.

    Balsam Fir

My property is loaded with balsam. They are a tough tree and grow just fine under my oak/maple canopy. They provide alot of cover. They are one of the few trees that the deer won't touch on my land. I have been transplanting alot of them in my screen along the road. I have planted some at my...

    Alder shearing/ usda program

My wife and son have their tags this year and will be hunting on my land. My friend has a 40 a couple miles down the road with his tag. We are not baiting too serious. Our land is 4 1/2 hrs away so we just throw out 5 gallons whenever one of us gets up there. We will get serious late August.

No, I should of took one. Everything thing was really wet and the mosquitoes were no joke. I will get one next time or do some research. It isn't a shrubs or tree looks like just a 3ft tall plant. The stem and leaves are green but all along the edges are red. It has glossy look also.

    Alder shearing/ usda program

Update on the second summer after the alder shearing. Everything is really starting to really thicken up. Alders are 4 - 5ft tall now and growing. The first picture is a large healthy clump of elderberry. The second is a 10ft clump of hazelnuts that produced a decent amount of nuts last year...
