my guess is 7 days probably no problem for almost any swo (excluding freshly planted trees) - especially an established tree 6-8-inch diameter during winter or tree in dormant period since oxygen needs would be much lower than during growing season. Most well established swo trees could probably...
Remington 870's were a real workhorse for a relatively inexpensive shotgun you could use as a push pole to get to your blind and turn around and shoot a limit of ducks with it. The old Model 11 Sportsman was a heavy gun but performed and held up well. Perhaps the best field grade gun...
Fingers dilemma supports my belief that one should not plant a tree with expectations for fruiting (and hoping for heavy mast on a frequent basis) with out sourcing the tree. If you can get information (generate it through a 5-year observation) about the parentage of the tree (especially...
Aesthetically, they are - IMHO - the most attractive of all white oak species. With their silvery leaf underside they almost sparkle/shimmer when they flutter in a wind. I believe they are the best street tree available among the oak species including both pure SWO's and any hybrids with an...
A gentle reminder... be on the lookout for potential hybrid white oak trees in your community. They could be oak trees producing acorns or young trees that are located in such a way that cross pollination is possible when they begin producing acorns. The attached photo exhibits a good example...
HBTD ... is that a new form of "pay" dirt cause it certainly isn't dirt cheap ... that's like 750 cubic yards of high quality loamy composted soil where I live - and that includes a pretty good quantity discount!

I don't really have a dog in this discussion, so I probably ought to stay on the porch. However, this is a teachable moment and the only contribution I will make to this thread.

Looks like it could be mostly marketing hype, they say nothing about parentage or the notion of a hybrid - hybrids are frequently identified and promoted as "growth vigorous." They simply say the tree is best suited for bottom-land planting and produces larger acorns than a typical bur oak.
