Apple Trees - Cage Individually or Perimeter Fence Entire Area ?

Since I want to get this done rather soon and I'm not currently aware of any used rolls of fencing, I'm planning to go to tractor supply for a 100' roll of 5' welded wire which would give me a 6' cage for each tree. However, a buddy of mine has a large amount of 8' fencing previously used that...

Protect Apple Trees from Wildlife ?

Thanks for all the valuable information and videos and pictures. I definitely didn't do my due diligence with this project. I always heard there is quite a bit of care for the trees with pruning and weed control and all that but never considered how much money and effort goes into the...

Protect Apple Trees from Wildlife ?

Wow. Guess I didn't know what I was getting myself into here. I wasn't too worried about it until I paid 75% more for the trees this past weekend than what I remembered the price being. I will have to read back over the responses again later but I live in the "pallet hub" of the country so I...

Protect Apple Trees from Wildlife ?

I bought 5 apple trees over the weekend and got them planted. They are about 5 feet tall and have a guard that wraps around the lower 18" or so. I have almost all wildlife imaginable for central PA. Heck I almost hit a fisher pulling out of the driveway this morning which was pretty wild...

Weird Question about plot screens (egyptian wheat / switchgrass)

ok, I've seen anywhere from 2 to 8 feet. Must depend on the type of switchgrass.

Weird Question about plot screens (egyptian wheat / switchgrass)

I know I'm being very picky about this, all because it's in view from the house. I want to put a screen around my food plot but I want to keep it trimmed to around 4-5 ft. This will keep my yard/kids/dog out of view from the plots but will allow us to see/view the tops of the deer from our...

Long Term Plot Plans - Thoughts?

    Pennsylvania. Shale ground.

Long Term Plot Plans - Thoughts?

Also to note, I have to research and learn this but I would like to spray the plots to keep grass/weeds down. Does that change anything with combining the clover/alfalfa/chicory?

Long Term Plot Plans - Thoughts?

Good question. This is why I posted the thread. I've only ever planted straight up clover. I didn't know what could be combined. Everybody else agree with this? Instead of splitting the clover and alfalfa combine it in same plot and add chicory if I want?

Long Term Plot Plans - Thoughts?

Also, you can pretty much see the perimeter of my property with the lines in the trees.

Long Term Plot Plans - Thoughts?

I have 14 acres with my house on it. This provides many struggles on the hunting side of things mostly because any kind of hunting plan takes a back seat to how I want my property to be in every aspect other than hunting. The pines were making me claustrophobic so I ended up clearing a bunch...

Opened up 2 acres off my back yard...what do?

Thanks for that. They're pretty much in my backyard.

Opened up 2 acres off my back yard...what do?

I do have the soil test and conditioning in mind. That's what I did with my other openings here. It needed lots of everything. I highly doubt I will go full blown orchard. I may put some trees up like I said but not 2 acres worth. Will look into sunn hemp and alfalfa. Have not considered...

Opened up 2 acres off my back yard...what do?

Pennsylvania. Picture of new opening below. First thing to note is wildlife management is not my primary goal. These pine trees had me so confined on a daily basis I needed to open things up. With that being said, wildlife management (of all types) comes next. The picture is showing about 2...

    What is this weed?

Can you tell what this weed is? Finally got around to mowing my clover and this weed was pretty heavy in spots and had so many fluffy seeds it seemed like I was in a snow storm. I'm assuming since I let this weed go to seed it may cause trouble next year in this clover plot? Any way to avoid...
