Porcupines love my oak trees, and can cause a lot of damage to them. I look for them in the winter when there easy to see in the trees and take them with a shotgun. Anyone have a better way of thinning there numbers?
Yes, I have a bunch seedling apple trees starting to bear fruit and just wanted to check options instead of just grafting over to other apple varieties.
I have gotten the best growth from trees I have pruned aggressively at a young age. Red lines are removing whole branch and yellow lines are heading cuts about half the branch. Cut the top of central leader as well, which may put up 2 to 3 more and prune back to 1 in mid summer. IMHO
I planted this strip by discing clover. I did not nuke it. It was a blend from deercreek seed, think it was Buck and Birds. I don't believe they have the same mix anymore but similar options.
Anyone find it better to leave damaged apples that are being eaten by yellow jackets on the tree or remove them? Asking for a home tree that is easy to get at. I was thinking if I keep them on the tree they would be less likely to ruin others. But maybe I'm just letting the tree pump energy...
