    Canadian fly in fishing recommendations

Just saw this thread, aware that it is very old but wanted to throw in my two cents. Have done a lot of fly-ins over the years and as others have mentioned you get what you pay for. There are in fact fly-ins that are not much better than any place you can fish back home and have been hammered...

    2026 Food Plot Experiment Plan

I have always planted my Perennial clover plots late summer. Allows time to create a weed free field for my clover. Take advantage of more predictable rainfall. Lets the clover establish roots that first late summer/fall and when it wakes up in the spring it has a leg up on any weeds. Just a lot...

    New Zealand Clover

Last time I put together a blend it was Legacy, Jumbo II and Rennovation. I have a plot at camp that has been in cereal grains the last couple years. I plan to get that back into clover this next late summer. Thinking of adding Aberlasting to the mix. Maybe do 50 percent and then Legacy and...

    New Zealand Clover

I love being able to create my own clover mix with welter. Its like playing mad scientist with clover. Different clovers have different strengths and weaknesses, so I always like to create a blend of three white clover varieties. Mix in some chickory and call it good.

    Willows

I have had great luck with planting cuttings. They do really well in those low wet spots you described. I have not noticed them spread. The bucks love to rub on them and they get worked over pretty good. They might get bigger than you want and maybe at some point you will have to cut them down.

    Two acre goldenrod field

When I bought my home in 2008 the back couple acres in my back yard were a grass field that was probably mowed a few times every summer. I have let it go back to nature since and it quickly became dominated by goldenrod. Small thorny trees and dogwood began to appear a few years later. It has...

    Girlding?

I agree with you guys on the timbering Idea. I mentioned it to him at the end of last summer but then it always seems like he gets sidetracked with some kind of drama from his son. And yes these are timber quality trees and that is why I would not feel safe trying to drop them myself. I will try...

    Girlding?

3 to 5 acres of mature sugar maples? I think at that scale I'd be getting a logger in there to sell them. Yea me too but it's not my property. I am trying to improve his land to hold deer but when I suggest he do something it never gets done. Owner is my cousin and he has an Idiot son who lives...

    Girlding?

I want to create bedding at the back of my cousin's property that is mostly mature sugar maple. These are mature trees and cutting them down would be tons of work. Thinking of girdling aggressively the back 3-5 acres. Guessing making two rings to a depth of half inch around trunk will do the...

Food plot progression over the years.

I like a grains and clover rotation. I have done a 50/50 mix of Oats and Wheat last couple years. Next late summer will use the grains as a nurse crop and get a perennial white clover mix going again. Once established I have had good luck keeping those clover blends going with mowing and weed...

    Powerline Foodplot ?

A spring tooth harrow is just an implement for roughing up the first couple inches of soil. Then after spreading your seed it can be used to drag over the soil and cover the seed. Any woody debris that is there after you brush hog will have to be removed by hand or burned. Spraying will be...

    Powerline Foodplot ?

Having a cleared area like that would sure be a nice start to any foodplot. You say all you have access to is hand tools so that might make things a lot more difficult. Sounds like you need to ask around and see if you can borrow an ATV with a tank sprayer or small tractor, that would be a game...

    Trespassers

I am looking to hear your trespasser stories. Ever have a trespasser claim they had permission to be on your land? If you have a Trespasser story post it here I would love to hear them.

    Triad Select TZ?

Its probably 2 acres total. A low area at the front of the property that borders the road. Idea is to create a screen between the road and the woods. As I mentioned earlier, site was prepped all last spring and summer using gly and 2-4D when needed. Sprayed with Simazine in September and is...

    Triad Select TZ?

356-Good chance you are right, just trying to come up with a plan for every contingency. This is a way bigger project than the switchgrass I established at my home and I really want to make sure that I have thought of everything. Currently awaiting the perfect conditions to frost seed.
