    Apple Seeds

Chummer, You could do that but your chance of germination would be less than if you planted the seeds. The apple would rot in the soil and get mushy and then attract insects - not the ideal media for germination but it work to one degree or another. You would have less chance of germination...

    Apple Seeds

JHoss, Looks great!. I have been using used styrofoam coffee cups - easy to poke holes with a pencil and they are free. I was using some plastic cups that lemon ice came in (and other assorted foods) but I totally ruined a solder iron on putting the holes in the container ............ so how...

    Apple Seeds

I live in zone 5B. I do not graft anything onto to first year seedlings because I want to see which seedlings can survive a really cold winter - minus 16 to minus 20 is what is typical here. Not everything makes it but those that do are the one's I graft. Someone asked about how straight are...

    Apple Seeds

Well, Of course it is going to work. That is how it has been done for millions of years - long before refrigerators were invented. The winter chill will do what the refrigerator does only better. You may not get 100% germination but you wouldn't get that with refrigerated seeds, either.

    Apple Seeds

Remember if you are saving seeds, you need to keep them in the frig for the winter for spring planting. You can also plant in pots and let winter take its course.

Do your B-118 trees lean badly?

I have both purchased trees on B-118 as well as grafted any number of my own trees on B-118. I've not had issues with trees leaning. Leaning could be secondary to heavy winds, snow drifts, sun issues, etc. Some staking when you notice the leaning might be helpful until the tree can hold its...

Wild Turkey Question(s) i.e. crazy idea I hatched.

Oakseeds, Thank for the info on coyotes. It was very interesting. The film clip on the coyote hunt was truly sickening and stomach turning. Calling non-hunters attention to such videos is an excellent way to encourage grass-roots outrage and campaigning against hunters - not an esp smart...

Wild Turkey Question(s) i.e. crazy idea I hatched.

Thanks, Bill. I really DID (very much did) want to know how to attract wild turkey and these guys gave me some very valuable information - as I knew they would. Hunters DO know a lot about this kind of stuff. I predicted they would help me out and they did. It is not the first time I have...

Wild Turkey Question(s) i.e. crazy idea I hatched.

rocknstumps, I will absolutely take some photos of the B118 this spring and summer and post them. They are absolutely gorgeous when they bloom - lovely pink. The fruit is on the small side and it IS edible although not the best apple you will ever eat. You can eat them but they are really...

Wild Turkey Question(s) i.e. crazy idea I hatched.

Tap, Since you cannot debate the substance of my arguments, you resort to ad-hominems. Your comment about fawns is correct. That WAS pretty ignorant. I believe it is you who have no interest in learning about other points of view. I have spent time reading through threads on this site so...

Wild Turkey Question(s) i.e. crazy idea I hatched.

Natty, My "true colors" are that I am a naturalist and I want more balance. This site is a habitat-talk site and that means ALL people who have view on the habitat are welcome. I have every right to present my perspective and "true colors." You do not own the habitat. I do not own the...

Wild Turkey Question(s) i.e. crazy idea I hatched.

Rusbucks, I absolutely agree that the whole wolf thing needs more study before it is implemented. I am not advocating for it, just saying I wish I had some around to deal with all of these deer. Thrill killing? Maybe they do. I am not a wolf expert but hunters thrill kill also. Most of...

bigbendmarine, you wrote: . but if I were to lean towards Nihilst atheism I would be even more a believer in killing all other predators, as what ultimate moral grounds should prevent me from such? This statement is a very interesting one, indeed. I am what is called a "secular humanist"...

Wild Turkey Question(s) i.e. crazy idea I hatched.

I think the bottom line is that we, the landowners, manage the land as we fit and normally, "as we see fit" translates to what serves us best. Now if one is a deer hunter, it is going to be management practices which favor deer. That person is going to want to eliminate any competing...

Wild Turkey Question(s) i.e. crazy idea I hatched.

Yoderjac, I think you nailed it. Pretty much everything you wrote is true. My view of the Bible is that it is literary and poetic fiction with some elements of solid wisdom and a whole lot of absolutel nonsense. If, however, it were true that man were given dominion over the earth and the...
