How much food is too much in bedding area?

Sorry I didn’t word that right - the cuttings are ROD, the hazelnut are bareroot. I pot them for a season so they don’t have to be protected in the woods for as long, plus I can guarantee good conditions for the plants when they’re young

How much food is too much in bedding area?

On that note - I did some edge feathering yesterday into that brushy wet strip and I have 50 of both ROD and hazelnut cuttings potted up right now to go in there as well

How much food is too much in bedding area?

That's good to hear - I haven't really seen bedding set up as layers very much, but I thought that I might just be because I was doing things wrong.. Every place I've ever hunted seems to have bedding based off of pressure and wind/terrain features. I've jumped bucks in weird spots, though I...

How much food is too much in bedding area?

I’ve been reading and watching some videos that mention depth of cover being important to bucks, and how a food source resets that. I was wondering if folks find this to be generally true, and if there’s an amount of food that holds a doe group and resets the depth of cover? I’m trying to...

    Squid shaped food plot?

I don’t think there is much pressure to the East - it’s about 3/4 of a mile until a house in that direction. Also I know the trails don’t have to be food but I was leaning that way because 3 or 4 fingers each 15yds x 100yds of food makes the total go from 2 acres (circle plot) to about 3.5 acres...

    Squid shaped food plot?

Also, I'm not sure if I explained the elevation properly. It drops down from the main body to the tentacles. So if there was a thermal it wouldn't be a problem when entering in the afternoon as it would be going opposite of the tentacles (exiting might be a problem if deer havent made it up to...

    Squid shaped food plot?

There isn't much elevation change except for a small 10-20 foot drop where the main 2 acres would meet the tentacles. Either side of that is flat - maybe 10ft drop per 100 yards. A 20ft topo map only shows one line on the entire area I want to turn into a plot. So, I'm not sure if I will get...

    Squid shaped food plot?

Yea I was planning to rent a dozer for a while this summer to make trails, level some plots, pull out some timber, etc.. so I’ll make sure things are in order 👍

    Squid shaped food plot?

haha yes, I'll try to make it tractor friendly (i have a 30hp ford), but some spots might just get clover if I can't easily get grain or brassicas

    Squid shaped food plot?

Has anybody had experience with a squid or octopus shaped food plot (circlular body with squiggly legs radiating off)? I have a ~2 acre brushy field that is already screened in willow brush. I wanted to add a kill type plot off that and more potential food acreage. So, I was thinking of...

    Fencing downwind side

It is a closed canopy of mostly white pine. I’m planning to do tsi everywhere but that area so it’s less attractive. I like the v idea, I just didn’t want to make a thick patch that they would use there

    Fencing downwind side

Barbed wire is relatively cheap so I might see how it goes. I wasn’t sure if the food plot fencing setups I was referring to only work if energized (I.e the deer gets shocked before it can size up the fence to jump it)

    Fencing downwind side

I have seen pics of people running double fences on food plots to take advantage of depth perception challenges that deer vision has. Kind of a wierd thought, but has anyone ever tried a double barbed wire or high tensile fence for directing movement.. same concept, just not protecting food in...

    Fencing downwind side

Sorry forgot, I’m in central NY and I’d rather not wait a decade haha. I’m happy to wait that long for fruit and nuts but I was hoping for a quicker solution here. The area I want to fence hasn’t been an area deer frequent but pushing them would open up a wider window of error on the wind. I...

    Fencing downwind side

Well this has been very informative.. I’ll definitely have habitat improvements at either end to promote movement there. I also didn’t realize how robust this may potentially need to be. Maybe I’ll put in a fence with tighter spacing at deer level and add strands vertically if the standard fence...
