    Bluehill 2025

I've never ordered from Bluehill. Are the more expensive sizes worth the extra cost? I'm planning to order approx 6-8 trees. Half persimmon and half crabapples.

    Conifer Health

I wasn't thinking about digging them up. I was just considering adding more to the area, anticipating some of the existing to die off in the next couple years due to j-rooting.

    Conifer Health

I planted some white pine and norway spruce last spring. It was my first year planting trees and I really didn't know what I was doing. I put them in with a 4" auger. Some went in fine, and some had some pretty large roots that I ended up cramming in there. Now the ones that have survived are...

    Early tree planting this spring?

I've rented a 6" gas powered post hole type auger with (2) handles. It worked, but it was a lot to handle. I've since then purchased a stihl BT-45 auger with a 4" bit. I couldn't imagine planting trees without it now. It can bust through some pretty good size roots. If you need a bigger hole...

    Screening a dam

It's a dam, not a divider. There's another lake on the other side. But it's below mine on my neighbor's property. My overflow fills his. Ive already got the grapefruit size rock. I like the idea of making areas for fish with them.

    Screening a dam

Thanks for the feedback. I'll probably try tilling. I'm a little concerned about rocks. The dam has a lot of rip rap. I'm not sure how much soil is actually on top. Probably need to have a handful of shear pins on hand.

    Screening a dam

Any advice for prepping the area before planting the rhizomes? Should I try to spray it first? Right now I'm hoping to be getting the in the ground late April or early May.

    Another screening question

Gotcha. Thank you for the info. Ill try to find some. I'm just pretty terrible at identifying plants and trees. But I've got a couple places in mind to look.

    Another screening question

Why do you recommend black willow over silky? Just curious. Is it because you can find them? From what I read online it sounds like more of a tree and the silky is more of a shrub?

    Another screening question

I kinda thought about that. But the house in the picture is directly south, so I thought it would still get decent sun. I'm probably leaning towards silky willows. I'll probably try to work the trail back a little bit and just keep the willows trimmed before season opens.

    Another screening question

I need to screen this trail that runs the bank along my lake. It's one of my main access trails. I was originally thinking of sticking silky willow stakes in as close to the water as I could. My only concern is when they get bigger, I'll probably have to cut them back to prevent overgrowing the...

    Where to buy earth auger?

I' I've got the BT45. I drilled a couple hundred holes with it last year. I have the 4" bit. I've thought about trying one of the bigger bits this year, but haven't decided yet.

    Screening a dam

I know trees are a big no-no on dams. I'm assuming shrubs are probably in the same category. But would it be a bad idea to plant miscanthis on a dam? This area is only about 8' wide and slopes down a couple feet towards the water.

    Silky willows

Looking for real world experience with silky willows. Have read they browsed less by deer. Has anyone seen that to be true? Do they require any protection?

    How would you screen this?

Thanks for the response. I'm not really worried about someone trying to poach off my property. The terrain is so rough, it's not like they could just pull it out of a field next to the road and be gone. It would take a lot of work, and my house is pretty close by. But I have a lot of public land...
