    Plot Fencing: Elec vs. Non

I have used the 7 foot poly fence around a 30' x 50' garden for about 4 years now. Works great to deter deer, and I haven't had coons bother it either and we have a lot of them here. Rabbits are another story, they chewed through and I had to run chicken wire around the bottom to stop them...

How to prep old crp for planting

I agree with burning it and spraying first. For safety's sake, you could disk a perimeter firebreak prior to lighting it up, 4 feet tall dead grass might produce a pretty hot fire.

    Chainsaw Setup

I've been using an Echo CS400 with Oregon AdvanceCut chains. Has worked well for me but I'm far from an expert. I will say the Echo starts easy and has been very reliable. The chains are easy for me to find but I haven't compared them to anything else.

Control of Sweetgum and Yaupon around pond?

Thanks blue!!. Previously I had cut many of the Sweetgum and Yaupon sprouts flush with the ground and hand painted them with undiluted Gly. That was about 14-15 months ago during winter here in NW Florida. The yaupon actually was killed pretty good. Now this spring the Sweetgum seems to have...

Control of Sweetgum and Yaupon around pond?

Good question. My concern as well. Gly has not done well on sweetgum stumps for me. Also have to kill sprouts near my well shelter and don't want to contaminate it. Thanks in advance!

Control of Sweetgum and Yaupon around pond?

I have a lot of small sweetgum and yaupon holly around my 1 acre pond, also some yaupon around a large oak near my well house. What's the most effective way to kill these safely and so they won't come back? Thanks, Dave

    Lime?

I had a similar situation a few years ago on a one acre plot. Soil test said I needed 1 ton of lime, kinda hard to do all at once, it's a remote plot. So instead I've been putting 250-300 lbs of pelletized lime on it every fall. Now 3 or 4 years later everything is looking better. It's a...

Deck Over Vs Standard Equipment Trailer

An added benefit of a deck over is it easily hauls logs.

    Hanging trail cameras by branches?

I recommend the Slate River trail camera mounts. Buy one on Amazon or elsewhere and try it out. They were about $18 or $20 the last time I bought. It's the best I've found and I've tried quite a few methods. Actually, just remembered...I bought mine from Trailcampro not Amazon.

3pt spreader.... thinking about buying one

I have a Land Pride FSP 500. Specs say it holds 5.83 cu. ft. (350 lbs.) It has a yellow poly cone and was made in Italy I believe. More than enough capacity for food plots and it works great, especially for lime/fertilizer. It has an agitator in the cone and I highly recommend getting one...

    Rutabagas

Here in NW Fla they're more a fall/winter item. A friend normally planted them in Oct and he always gave us some in Jan/Feb along with mustard and collard greens. Would take a really hard freeze to damage them. They were sweet and crunchy and he fought off the deer in his garden every winter...

    chicken manure for food plot?

Hmmm, I guess I should be extra nice to my source, the little I got from him was fully dry and not terribly smelly. He uses it on his own garden and he has a great garden. On another note, I remember getting some free horse manure at a local stable about 25 years ago, and it really improved...

    chicken manure for food plot?

Thanks for all your thoughts. Helps me weigh the pros/cons. The source is a unique guy. He doesn't own the land but is in charge of the chicken operation. He doesn't always have a tractor/loader on hand, so most of his customers just get it in 5 gal buckets and hand shovel it right out...

    chicken manure for food plot?

I have a source for very dry fully composted chicken manure. It's quite fine with just a few clumps here and there. Several locals are using it with great success for vegetable gardens. I can get it for $2 for a five gallon bucket and could easily get 20- 25 buckets or so. How effective...

    Showering before hunting

I don't shower the morning of a hunt, but do take a thorough one the night before with a shampoo called Free and Clear. I use Dove fragrance free bar soap. I wash clothes in Arm and Hammer fragrance free detergent. I don't use plastic bins, bags or anything like that. The closest thing I'm...
