Which CWD Approach Better - WI Let It Happen or Kill Them To Save Them?

I can honestly say we have found dead bucks on our place. We had pictures of a 4.5 yr old buck all summer and fall, seemed healthy and about December 1st we noticed he wasn't looking right. Figured it was the rut until we got pics late December and he looked sickly. Found him dead early January...

MDC stoops to a new low, kill 12 bucks a year.

Wisconsin has it where if you shoot a cwd positive deer, they will re-issue you another tag that's good for that year and the next. My cousin has shot I believe 3 bucks that have been positive and thus has 2 buck tags for bow hunting most years. Wisconsin should be used in a seminar on what...

What is the Highest Scoring Buck You Have Taken?

My biggest was a bow kill in 2018 that went 187.

    Realistic expectations

I always thought as long as you had a good amount of ag around, a buck with good genetics could reach 150+ if given age. Where we are at in South central Wisconsin, ag is all over and thus we see bigger bucks. One thing that I can't quite wrap my head around is how northern Wisconsin used to...

    Realistic expectations

We've killed a 187, 167, 160, and a 150 off our 63 acres along with a few other 4.5+ yr old lower scoring bucks. Our neighbors constantly say, we wish we could shoot big ones like you and say they are gonna pass the 2.5 and 3.5 year olds but every year it's the same story, we'll he looked big...

    Uncatagorized.....things we see....

Our oak in our yard is doing the same thing. Could it be too much rain? We've had an insane amount of rain in Wisconsin this year so far.

Encouraging Article on CWD in Missouri

Wisconsin did plenty to try and stop the spread. They handed out antlerless tags like candy at a parade to thin the herd. You could get 4 free antlerless tags every day if you wanted to. They made it to where you could gun hunt till the end of March I believe. They also implemented earn a...

    DNR controlled burns

Not sure where exactly you're located but the WI DNR does it too. Down by us, they burn the badger ammunition plant every spring and seem to always burn it when it's high fire time. Many people have complained about it but of course the DNR I'd exempt. Also last year Ft McCoy did a controlled...

    Snapshot Wisconsin

My cousin was part of this program for years and within the last year it became such a hassle with the demands that the dnr wanted that he sent the camera back and told them where to go. First it was the camera had a vine hanging in it and that wasn't natural, next it was he couldn't have it...

Wisconsin legislators author bill to reduce doe harvest in Northern Zone

With the current check in station being all online or call in, how many does will still get shot and never reported. It's happening now all over and I can only imagine it will be worse when guys are only seeing does and no bucks. Super easy to shoot a deer and have it skinned and butchered...

    Roundup Power Max

I'm wondering if anyone has used Roundup Power max that's 48% gly compared to regular products with 41% gly. Normally I spray our RR beans after they've emerged and don't know if the higher dosage would stunt or kill them.

Are the glory days of deer hunting coming to a close?

Since gun season, my cousin has talked to just about all of our neighbors within a 2 mile radius of our land. A total of 24 bucks got shot between bow and gun season. Only 2 of those bucks were 4.5 or older. Same old story of got excited when I saw him so I shot and yeah I shouldn't have shot...

    Wisconsin Gun Opener Saturday

Opening weekend was terrible as far as deer sightings go. The slaughter of 2 and 3 yr old bucks just makes me want to cry. Within a mile of us 4 2 yr olds and 2 3 yr olds bit the dust. And that's just what we know about. Another Amish guy who has already shot at least 3 deer during bow season...

Hunting / recreation and timberland values in your location?

The Amish have the money to buy whatever/however much land they want. They have endless amounts and if it's anything like in our area, they find the landowners who love them and kiss a$$ and eventually get the land offered to them at a huge discount.
