    P18 Rootstock

Yes, that's my belief Marlin. It's been a great grower, about the size of your 8 year old tree. Lack of blossoms may now be irrelevant as we hit 25F last night. I haven't been able to sample a chestnut crab yet, but had some Trailmans last year and they were outstanding. I'm looking forward...

Best apple I have ever eaten

I had my first trailmans right off the tree last year and was blown away how good they were.

    Crabapple timeline

A couple Big Dogs about to bloom, grafted from scions Sandbur sent me back around 2020 I think. On B118

    Fruit trees for dove hunting

I have Trailman Crab, Chestnut Crab, Pristine and Redfree that ripen in that time frame that I consider great eating. Last season was my first crop of Trailman and I couldn't get enough! I'd look at peaches and nectarines too, I have several just not yet producing.

    P18 Rootstock

I have a Chestnut Crab on P18 planted in 2019 that's been an absolute rockstar grower. Out of ~200 fruit trees it's in the top 3 if not the best for growth rate right up there with my WC Droptine and 30-06. Today it's probably an 18' tree, strout and well branched. I've pruned it for shape and...

    Whats under your Sleeve?

After putting in ~200 fruit trees over the last 6 years, decided to take a year off from planted and just take better care of trees that I have. I'm pretty capped out on space anyways.

2 Favorite Trees for Every Month

I only have about a dozen different varieties producing meaningful crops so far but have over 75 varieties planted. I fully expect this will change a lot over the next few years...but as of right now it sits like this: August-Pristine and Trailman September- Chestnut Crab and Morse Nova Scotia...

Pears, If you were to pick just 3?

Hopefully I'll have a good idea in 3 or 4 years. I have a couple dozen young pear trees, none have produced more than a handful of fruit yet. Kieffer has been best grower. Morse Hybrid has produced most fruit and it holds fairly late. I'm most excited about Blue Hill Advent.

    Mine still hanging

Tough to say, I haven't actually seen the tree in person since Labor Day-ish and most years I might only see it one or 2 times during season. It's typically holding a fair amount of fruit into the new year..last year was an exception but I believe that was racoon related. I'm a huge fan of...

No till buckwheat vs summer blend

IMO, your best course of action would be using this summer to kill the weeds multiple times with herbicide then start your fall planting. What summer blend are you referring to?

    Mine still hanging

30-06 still drawing. Hard to tell how much is left. I'd been pretty down on this tree the last couple years because the fruit loses its integrity fairly early in the season and will literally splatter when dropped. It's also biennial rotating small then heavy crops. But, it has gained some...

The Notorious Nativ Nurseries "Wild Deer Pear"

Anyone know why NN dropped the wild deer pear? I assume some were growing out with some Bradford genetics?

Local Crabapples your keeping an eye on?

This is a local ditch crab, parent tree tends to be biennial..but on it's production years it throws an insane amount of fruit that starts dropping in October and persists well into winter. I grafted scions from that tree 4 or 5 years ago. Last year was its first fruit and it fruited again...

    Mine still hanging

30-06 is drawing deer still. Droptine to far left is still holding alot. 10 point in middle has been done for a couple weeks.

Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On at WhitetailCrabs

Southern Michigan, 6a/5b. Droptine left and 30-06 right appear to be holding most their fruit loads still. I've also been getting pics regularly for a few weeks of deer under them..so I believe fruit has been dropping. 10 Point in center appears to done, but saw lots of activity in September...
