    Protecting tree seeds

I'd be interested in seeing what you have come up with. I think ultimately it will come down to cost. I can buy a seedling that is already 2-3ft tall for $5-$8 from Nativ Nurseries. I'm also going to have to put down a weed mat and eventually an $8 tree tube.

    Sing it Don…

Rifle season opened here yesterday and goes uninterrupted until February 10th. So, it can always be worse!

    Value of an LLC????

That can be true, especially at the state level in my experience. You can run losses for multiple years but it has to be reasonable and part of the operating plan for future income. Tons of startups lose millions or even billions per year for many years before they become profitable and it’s...

    Value of an LLC????

LLC’s became popular as a way to protect your personal assets if someone got hurt at your farm, rental property, business, etc. it’s a separate legal entity. I’m not an attorney, so I can’t comment on whether it truly offers protection in a court of law and a jury of 12. I am a CPA and I...

Are the glory days of deer hunting coming to a close?

I learned a long time ago that trying to only target mature bucks in my area, with 3 months of consecutive firearm seasons that span all phases of the rut, was a futile effort outside of controlling thousands of acres or getting LUCKY with your neighbors. Instead of challenging myself with the...

Beginnings of a southern land tour...

I did get the seed in the ground on October 24th and got a good rain the next day. None since then, but my plots are up and looking pretty good. Just need one more good rain and it will be great. No detailed pics yet but the trail cams tell the story.

    Allegheny Chinkapin

I see Willis Orchards in GA has seedlings for sale. I bought some seeds from a member here a month or so ago. Message The Fishman, he may have some more to share.

How to Turn Old Hay Field Into Deer Habitat

I would start with Craig Harper’s book on managing early successional habitat.

Are the glory days of deer hunting coming to a close?

I listened to that yesterday and it confirmed my belief that’s it’s mostly related to pressure. The good old days of a county full of farmers having a few hundred acres that no one really hunts is definitely over. Lakosky said his best farm is surrounded by county roads, which keeps...

Are the glory days of deer hunting coming to a close?

I’m sure EHD plays a role but I think the biggest factor is that a lot of very serious hunters from all over the country have been gobbling up land throughout Midwest, which results in a substantial increase in pressure on mature bucks. Not to mention, with crazy land prices, farms are being...

This is definitely going to be an interesting year for acorns

I picked these up in a Marriott parking lot this morning on a road trip. Are these post oak?

Beginnings of a southern land tour...

Seed is going in the ground tomorrow. 1000lbs of 3way grain and 400lbs of clover. Alone, it’s going to be a long day.

Stock Market is the bottom in?

They should have issued stock, it was the prudent thing to do to save the company from going to zero. It’s a failed business model that is eventually going to zero. No bank is giving them capital at reasonable rates. They were given a gift by becoming a meme stock. Issuing shares gives them...
