This has been my practice and experience the last 20 years.

What trees are you planting spring 2026 ?

I graft about 6 apple trees every spring now, mostly just to replace dead or damaged trees from the bears and I enjoy grafting. I find a spot for any leftover but I am really out of space for new apple trees. Those get planted in the fall. I have moved on to other trees and shrubs for spring...

    Dolgo Rootstock Source?

I don't have any personal experience with them yet but have heard of them and all good. They and Cummings are mentioned in the same breath usually when people are talking about Ithaca Nurseries. I heard of Cummings first and went to many of their seminars and always just ordered there when I was...

    Mine still hanging

You probably saw my post about my experience with B118 on the other thread. The franklin have taken to the B118 rootstock and do well and have had decent apples, the problem with here seems to be with the B118 rootstock and leaning. If B118 works in your soil the Franklin should do well.

    Dolgo Rootstock Source?

I am 30 miles from Ithaca and didn't realize Mehrabyan nursery was located there. I will give them a call next week and get some of their Dolgo seedlings. I am only doing a half dozen a year or less so I can live with the price. I have done a ton of business with Cummins nursery over the years...

    What's good and what's not on B118

B118 have been almost a total failure for me in western NY. They lean horribly and of the 12-18 trees I have tried on them the only ones that are still standing are 2 Franklins that look like Charlie Brown trees and a Transcendant crab that seems to be doing great. All the others have fallen...

    Dolgo Rootstock Source?

Guess I am not getting those, just received an email back stating they don't ship to NY and 20 is the minimum order. Ugh!

    Dolgo Rootstock Source?

Just ordered a half dozen of the Dolgo from Yellow River. Happy to find them. I am about out of space and only do a few trees a year now. Dolgo have done great for me and I greatly prefer them.

    GP/LP 3P600 or 3P606NT user thread

I planted BC Big Rock last year at 7lb an acre out of the small seed box. Started calibration at the alfalfa setting and only had to tweak it a little. Worked great. I have read that Big Rock might be a tad bigger than other switchgrass but I don’t know that, still pretty small. Biggest issue is...

Too late for a 2nd Take?

Absolutely not. This is when I do all my topworking in western NY and northern PA. I just did several in the last week and have one more to do I just found that beavers lopped off. 😡 9 year old Golden Hornet that a beaver some how got his teeth through the cage. Was only worried about bucks...

    In Search of Chocolate Cake

We are a year behind you in the same quest. Progress is going at about the same speed as yours. Better filtration, more worms and better plant growth with each passing year so far. We stopped fertilizing when we started. Seems to be working slowly but surely.

    New way of fixing B118

I have been registered to be notified when back in stock since he quit selling them. Never been notified. I just registered again and it said I am already registered. I am about out of space anyway and only do a few trees a year now. Ryan’s Dolgo rootstock have been the best I have used and it...

    Kubota MX series

Unless the price was right I would look for another machine. Could be fine but I always trust my gut and sounds like yours is telling you something.

    New way of fixing B118

Dolgo has become my favorite rootstock. All of mine have done great. I wish Bluehill still sold the rootstock for grafting.
