Gonna try crossbow hunting this year

Ease of working on it was the reason i went tith the Excalibur. I agree that getting them in close is what gets my blood pumping. Good luck this year!

Gonna try crossbow hunting this year

Good luck tou you! I'm not that old, but in my early 20's had a close call on public land during rifle season that caused me to hang it up for a while. One day a kid at work was selling an older Horton crossbow for a cheap price and I decided to buy it. Getting to hunt during archery after that...

    First Fruits

My trees are still young and I don't think the extremely wet spring / early summer did them any favors. That said I did get to try a few apples this year. Left about 6 chestnut crabs on that were delicious. Have a few liberty to try as well, but I don't think they're ready yet. Tonight I have a...

    Shooting range

I have one right behind my house. I don't shoot alot, kind of like you said a little in the summer. I've had does walk right up in front of the target an hour after shooting. Maybe their just conditioned to it around me. Some of my neighbors shoot on the regular, and they shoot alot.

PA Sunday Hunting Ban is over

Pretty happy about this! I sometimes get out in the afternoon after work to hunt on the weekdays, but it's few and far between. Can't tell you how many Saturdays in archery it's been a downpour only to have Sunday being beautiful with a nice buck walking up my driveway in the morning. I just...

    Leaf curl aphids

In my little orchard I did alot of smashing the large clumps of them with my thumb for my own satisfaction (ended up with a green thumb), and then spraying the trees with sevin to take care of the stragglers. I'm fairly inexperienced at taking care of trees, so I'm not sure sevin is the right...

    Woodchips and Ants

I've seen the same on my young fruit trees. Ants seem to farm the aphids. From what I've seen and read they aphids secrete a "honeydew" liquid the feeds the ants. A spraying o Sevin has done the trick for me the past 2 years.

Later to Leaf out / later to bloom Apples.

My two cobbler crabs are very slow leafing out compared to the rest of my trees. The canisteo is also pretty slow. These are in there 4th year on my property, and I have yet to see a blossom on them. They're good growers though, so hopefully maybe they'll burst next year

    Uncatagorized.....things we see....

Found a den of baby red fox out behind my place this morning. Managed to slowly sneak up on them as they were playing. Got within about 5yds. I know they're nest raiders, but the little SOB's are cute.

    Please help

I'm pretty far from an expert so take this with a grain of salt. I'd go ahead and plant them. The 2 springs I planted trees it was sopping wet. I had all of the holes (2ft diameter x 2ft deep) dug way ahead of time. The days I planted it had rained the night before, or was raining that day. Was...
