Depending on how big of an area it is, I would provide some diversity inside the patch. From the picture to me, it all looks very similar in both plant makeup and density. Lots of options. Bush hog a few strip through to allow new growth to start. Clear some patches and plant some evergreens...

I had the same issue a few weeks back when the blackberries came to life this spring. The new sprouts were chewed to nubs but less and less browse on my durana clover that was full and green for weeks.

How does this stuff work on no-see-ums, see-me-nots, and other invisible bugs that eat deet with their breakfast? If it can keep them away I will soak my fishing shirts in it as well.

What will grow in their place naturally? If you have to re-plant, I know Red osier dogwood does very well in wet swampy areas.

No science to back it up, but I was told to feed oyster shells to chickens as they use the calcium for egg laying. I assumed it would be the same with turkeys as well as it being beneficial to grinding up their food. H2OFowler, have you seen the birds attracted to the oyster shells?

Did not know that about coyotes increasing turkey populations. Makes sense when you think about it though. Either you have skunks, possum fox and all sorts of animals eating eggs or just coyotes. Overall, coyotes help the turkeys

Thats what i'm looking to do! I have 3 1/2 acre food plots on 35 acres. Im working to slowly expand these out to 1 acre each, divided by fruit and nut trees. I teach drivers ed in afternoon for spending money so i normally get to the farm 1 day a week.

Ive heard of it, never used it. Pretty sure he used it the same way as you, on logging roads and in thinned pines with sandy, low pH soil and not alot of sunlight

Thanks for the info, I am very limited in oaks. I may look at the surrounding properties more, specifically the ones holding spring birds, and adjust that plan. I just assumed thick cover was the difference in birds using the properties, since it is the most visible difference.
