    Buying a Used Tiler

Unlss your soil has a bunch of roots or rocks you should do ok. Definitely ok with hydrostatic and looser soils. Some tillers can go forward and reverse roatation. Thats a plus. Forward is coarse but puts soil on top to the bottom. Reverse loosens better, but doesnt move the soil height as...

"Hack and squirt doesn't work in early spring."

I was reading up on a guy who cut maple trees down to let them sprout branches for the deer to nibble on when I found this site a few years ago. Make a handful of brush piles here n there too. Good for rabbits, grouse, and turkey nests. propogating dogwood cost next to no money.

Maintenance fertilizer for pines n spruces

Anybody seen what kinda mix spruce and pine trees should get for fertilizer? I have high 5 pH clay soil I have been liming more or less annually. Wondering if the pH shouldn't be as high as apple trees like them. Planted 2017 seedling, all are around 8-10ft tall. Most years just put a...

    High bush cranberry cages?

I have one highbush cranberry at home. It's not browsed hard. You can dump branches around your planting to keep the deer out of it. I do that at camp and seems to work ok. Spots right by foodplots, so the deer are there often

Best fertilizer for young grafted Apple rootstock

A big thing on fertilizer, apply between april and early june. Maybe twice. After that, let the tree focus on hardening the wood and not making more soft fresh wood. ORchards often spread potash in the winter to give soil time to absorb it.

"Hack and squirt doesn't work in early spring."

harper cocktail? Think it was 2 parils ago, I girdled a few mature birches at camp and triclopyr n diesel. Trees seemed like they didnt miss a beat that year. Girdle n plain diesel in the summer kills alot of stuff.

You got pics of the fruit b116? Mny site want to show of the flowers and not show the fruit. Got tons of things I want to graft, but the post office by my work has a huge small red bird crab that holds into febuary. Probably nothing too special and likely something on that list. Worth...

"Hack and squirt doesn't work in early spring."

I'm Relatively new to doing this kind of habitat work. I think you have to wait until the buds turn into mature looking leaves. Guessing early / mid may. I did some drill n fill on mature trees very end of febuary or very early march. Was a cold snap. 3/8" paddle bit aiming at a steep angle...

    Grouse and Crabapples

Maybe scoop up one or two of that kind, but would buy other ones if the primary intent is for birds. Grouse in NY love birch catkins. Dog's got a scent but cant find it, look up.

    Please help

If you can get some extra soil, mound them. Loosen up the soil a bit, put the roots 1/3 to 1/2 in the ground, then make a mound of soilf or them up top. Probably a good front bucket load of soil will do 2 trees. larger tractor bucket like 50+hp probably can do 3. clay soil? Sand should...

    Grouse and Crabapples

Seen grouse on crabapples that size. Although they'd probably prefer smaller. Also, they will pick at ones on the ground and dried up ones get smaller. dolgo or siberian seedlings would make good crabapples. Grafted dolgo will be about the size you mentioned. Lots of places selll smaller...

Removing stake and Cages what size / age.

I thought staking them help them grow faster. Prevents the roots from getting beat up in the wind. I staked some in 2023 and didn't stake some too. Looked like the staked ones did a bit better. 2024 trees I pretty much staked all of them, or used the cage stakes and some some. My home site...
