Tree looks familiar but I can't ID it

Agreed. Very messy and lots of rot... best to have a good distance from the house.

Tree looks familiar but I can't ID it

The deer and the racoons love them. Pic from July. I had no idea why the Deer and Racoons were showing up on this camera for the longest time until I eventually saw the fruit and then realized lots of critters were hitting this tree day after day. I finally used the "Seek" app to help me...

Tree looks familiar but I can't ID it

From what I have seen around my place... the younger mulberry trees have leaves like yours. As they mature, the leaves get more like footballs and the multiple lobes tend to go away - I think!

I think it is Mulberry too. We have lots of them on our property in WI. Racoons and deer like them.

    Cages, weed mats and mulch

Looks awesome! We have been experimenting with 2x4 wire fence cages recently... over the last couple of months, have placed about 70 cages and might add the mulch if I can work it in. Going to pick up another roll of fencing today.

    Persimmon or Plum?

interesting... I just noticed fruiting trees this year (had property for two years) and see golf ball sized green fruit. Will have to see if they turn red.

    The trouble with tree tubes

What an awesome thread! We planted about 300 white oak, white pine and grey dogwood last year and few less than that this year... have struggled looking for a cost effective strategy to protect them. Came up with this 16 gage fencing idea secured with the ground with electric fencing line...

Establishing Native Habitat and need to mow at 10-inches high to control invasives

You joke, but I had actually been thinking about getting different wheels or putting a lift kit on the mower to see if I could raise it up. Odd that typical mowers come with deck height adjustments from the 1 to 4 inch range... I typically only use the 3.5 to 4 inch range and rarely go below...

Establishing Native Habitat and need to mow at 10-inches high to control invasives

When I saw the collection of PVC piping, I thought the same thing! But for about $400, I might try it... attempting to avoid buying the big tractor right now and seeing what kind of simple options are out there.

Apologies if I sounded like I did not trust your recommendation... just don't know enough about herbicides but learning every day! I really appreciate you introducing me to this product.

Establishing Native Habitat and need to mow at 10-inches high to control invasives

I am liking these instructions better as they are suggesting 6 to 8-inches! Nice to have a few competing opinions along the way.

Establishing Native Habitat and need to mow at 10-inches high to control invasives

I'll look into this product... just don't want kill the 30-plus pollinator / grass mix that we just seeded in over the winter.

Establishing Native Habitat and need to mow at 10-inches high to control invasives

Technical problem - converting old pasture / cropland to native habitat / pollinator. Question for the hive... we recently mowed, sprayed (Glyphosate), then seeded and now... have a problem. Canada Goldenrod is taking over and shading out the new native planting! DNR biologist is suggesting...
