I have a Zeiss 15X60 T* binocular. Like so many of those old models, the objective lens caps that were molded into the rubber armor covering the barrels eventually broke off at the rubber hinges. Zeiss sent me a replacement pair free, but I have to take the existing armor off and put the new ones on myself. I think I could unscrew the barrels, slip the old ones off that way, and slip the new ones on, but I think the binocular may be filled with insert gas to prevent fogging of the lenses from the inside. If that is the case, I don't want to break the seal.
Has anyone reading this post ever performed this replacement task yourself? If yes, how did you do it?
