Zeiss 15X60 T* Objective Lens Caps

PoorSand

5 year old buck +
I have a Zeiss 15X60 T* binocular. Like so many of those old models, the objective lens caps that were molded into the rubber armor covering the barrels eventually broke off at the rubber hinges. Zeiss sent me a replacement pair free, but I have to take the existing armor off and put the new ones on myself. I think I could unscrew the barrels, slip the old ones off that way, and slip the new ones on, but I think the binocular may be filled with insert gas to prevent fogging of the lenses from the inside. If that is the case, I don't want to break the seal.

Has anyone reading this post ever performed this replacement task yourself? If yes, how did you do it?

I haven't done the repair myself
I would have to think they would install them for you for a fee if you didn;t want to rick doing so yourself!
or even try asking a good online optic store, like maybe Optic planet, they deal with a LOT of brands and optic forms from scopes to binoculars to camera's too??
Have to think they have experience with repairs on things or get you to someone with real answers and experience with taking them apart!

or??
another thought if you wished
I have known guys that lost there caps, and went to Butler creek scope caps(the flip open one;'s) and installed them, they slip on, come in countless sizes to get a snug fit, and open close pretty easy and stay attached to binoculars
just another idea to think about!

Just following up here to communicate the end result.

I ended up shipping the binoculars to the Zeiss repair center in Kentucky. I told them to do a complete repair and refurbish. I figured it would be expensive. The binoculars said "Made in West Germany" on them, so they were likely made before the reunification of Germany in 1990. The repair center in turn shipped them to Germany for service. Then they went back to Kentucky for additional service. Zeiss notified me every step of the way. The binoculars eventually came back to me looking like new and there was no charge. That's one heck of a warranty!

well I;m glad they stood by there products, I wish more company's would do the same,!
on a side note, a few months back I had a pair of Nikon binoculars fail, gasket inside started falling apart, bought them back in the 90's, contacted Nikon, they said send them to us, gave me a free shipping label to send back too!
when they got them they contacted em stating so, a few days later contacted me saying they we under warranty still but no longer had parts, so were offering me a new free pair of binoculars, of a higher grade than the one's I had, I agreed, a few days later they showed up.
Its company's like this and customer service like this that will net my business down the road as well as allow me to recommend them to others!
its good to see a few Good company's left in todays world!
