That's what I did. I wasn't sure if I planted them right but I planted all mine in bunches of 5 in about a 5' diameter fence. Wasn't sure if that was too close or not.Yours look great!
I’m trying them again next spring, last two times I spaced to far and didn’t protect..they are struggling.
Next spring I’m going to plant a little grove at each farm and fence.
I think I planted these wild plum 3 years ago.(maybe 4). This is the first year they have fruit and they are really throwing it out. I hope they stay looking this good. I have not had any luck getting any edible plums in the past.

The ones in the pic are about 6 ft tall and about 4-5 ft wide. I have a few that are close to 10 ft tall next to these. Last year they had a few plums but they never grew bigger than a grape and then they were gone. This year they had a lot of flowers but we got a bad frost and now they have no fruit. The smaller plum were not flowering yet and are full of fruit. The 10ft plums are probably 6 years in the ground. I bought the biggest they had, not sure if they were 2-2? They were all over 2 ft when I planted.Awesome! How big / wide are they getting? Are they sending up many suckers yet?
I ordered mine from paint creek nursery, and they were the biggest size they had, maybe 2-2, all the trees looked great and were 2ft plus. They have put on close to 2 ft a year. I stopped using tubes. The ones with tubes grew fast straight up and the trunk could barley hold it up. With out tubes they spread out and are nice solid trees. What were the size of the plums that you planted 3 years ago?
I have been planting wild or american plums the last two years. They were bare root seedlings but have been putting on a few feet each year. I have had decent luck with tree tubes and have been very impressed with the plum's growth in their first year or two.
Yes they suckered like crazy without any help or from pits. I tried digging up and transplanting 3 of them, but they all failed.Awesome! How big / wide are they getting? Are they sending up many suckers yet?
They are American.Rusk - Are these American or Chickasaw plums?
Thank you! That means there may be some left around bow opener here, depending on the yearThis is a picture from September 4th. They started dropping about a week earlier. I want to say that it was only about a 3 week window and they were all gone off the tree and the ground. I'm not sure what was all eating them, but it was matted down heavy all around the trees.
