Wife wants wind chimes

My wife inherited a large wind chime from her aunt and wants them hung up at our house/cabin on my hunting land. She reads online that deer adjust and won’t be spooked from it. I have my doubts. What are your thoughts?
1) Not a chance
2) deer will adjust
3) hang them until August, then take them down
4) ??????

We have multiple wind chimes on our porches and have seen no evidence they spook deer.

Keep in mind they are different levels of chimes regarding tones and level of noise.

I think they add more relaxation benefits and if it keeps your wife happy ... happy life! :emoji_wink:

Wives are a dime a dozen, but big deer are scarce..................That was a joke honey :emoji_grinning: ..........This is an interesting question. I think they might adjust, but what about that big one that comes in during the rut from another location..... He might get spooked.

Hmm yea dicey.. They would still be on alert. Maybe the compromise, take them down in August??

Do you plan on getting sleep at this cabin? Haha. Deer might adjust, I never did.

I would say just don't hang it on your deer stand.

I H-A-T-E wind chimes!
I'd much rather listen to the sounds of nature than listen to those noise makers.
If my wife insisted on having them, they would need to be the little, low volume kind.
My mother-in-law had some that sounded like a pipe organ or Big Ben going off at 11 o'clock.

We have them in our yard and the damn deer still eat my hosta's and dahlia's. Time to thin the herd.

My neighbor has them and I am real close to making them disappear. They wake me up every time the wind blows

If they sound like Willie in Red Headed Stranger, the deer might not care. The deer in our driveway tonight started tiptoeing towards me as I stopped and turned up the radio. They seemed to enjoy what happened in 01. As for wind chimes, I would need to carry a set in the car and see how they react. I do remember we sold thousands of dollars in windchimes each year in our store and the chi-ching sound was very exciting to us.

Tell your wife you ain't doing that chit and she can get over it. And let us know how that goes. She does own THAT important thing.
Or you can hang it, then plug the chimes, which mud daublers like to do anyways. Just play dumb when she notices the clunking.
Seriously, I think deer hear more alarming things they ignore than wind chimes.

I second this!

These are the big organ type . I hung them under my deck, which is tucked pretty tight in between trees. We agreed they come down mid August until spring.

Got a set as a gift years ago. Thank god my wife hates them and they went to the restore.
Hang them bad boys. Then get a Bic lighter and singe a rope at a Time until the dang thing falls. Darn Chinese rope isn’t UV resistant these days. Covid ruined everything good ;)

But I don’t think it would bother the deer. And if a neighbors rutting buck shows up after a doe, a Mack truck horn won’t send him home, that wind chime won’t phase him....

We have a set hanging under the roof overhang on the front of the house. The other night when walking the dog there were 9 deer bedded in my front yard, not 50 feet from the chimes while they were making noise. They get used to them, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I really didn’t suspect anyone here to be ok with the wind chimes. So now I am suspecting all of your accounts are falsely made by my wife to make me think wind chimes won’t scare deer :)

But after reading you guys reply’s, the big question is not if the deer can get use to them, it is if I can get use to them.

Oh the sacrifices we make for deer hunting ... :emoji_grimacing:
