Whitetail Crabs

White Oak

5 year old buck +
I noticed some of Whitetail Crabs spring 2022 trees are sold out already. However they added some mid-size approx 3-foot Droptines for $12.95 sounds like a pretty good deal. I 'd also like to mention they have a couple new varities Wolf River and Winter Gold Crabapple

Thanks for the heads up.

I planted a wolf river many years ago on a property I had in northern Wisconsin that my brother now owns it didn’t do terribly well at least in sandy soil it might be the bomb diggity in more fertile soil.

Thanks for the info. As far as Whitetal Crabs go , my first planting was the spring 2020 . I have the 30-06 , Droptine and Crossbow. The Droptine and 30 -06 both have several dozen fruit this year, but no fruit on the crossbow. While the Droptine seems to be the fastest grower and had the most fruit this year....I believe it doesn't have as much disease resistance (at least in my area) ....a lot of yellow spots on the leaves and the fruit looks messed up possible CAR ? I'm not sure , I'll watch the droptines next year and see if the same thing happens, but in your area the Droptine might be the bomb diggity , but so far I rate the 30 06 my best tree from Whitetail crabs . I'll need a few more years to get a accurate idea of fruit production and fruit drop time in my area.

I planted 3 from them in 2020 as well. Droptine, 20-06, and Wickson. I can't remember which one exactly, but noticed the same spots on the leaves of one of them. No fruit yet. Nice growers though.

The sheep nose apple won the growing contest this year. Thing is 8' tall already. Planted in April '21.

I got one of the smaller drop tines and one of the bigger ones this spring. The taller one added some limbs and lots of leaves, but not much height.
The smaller one added about 3-4 feet in height and tons of leaves...it literally looked like a 3 foot twig when it started (planted April 2021) and now is about 7-8 feet tall with about 100 leaves and limbs starting.
I will be doing an experimental mid-fall planting with some 30-06, crossbow, drop tine and winter gold crabs above my house.
Hoping to have the holes dug this weekend and the cages and window screen bases pre-fabbed sometime in the very near future.

Is Northern whitetail crabs and whitetail crabs the same entity? Why 2 websites if so?

Awesome , do you live local to Whitetail crabs and you'll be picking them up ?, I didn't know they offered fall shipping. With hunting season coming up I wont have time , or really want to disturb my hunting area anyway since it's just a small parcel ,,,,So I'll just stick with a spring shipment , but it would be great to have a head start and have the trees to be in the ground all winter. I have one more 30-06 and two Crossbows coming this spring... Then I'm going to watch them grow to see what variety perfoms best here in the south before ordering more.

I am local (45 minutes away) so I can just go pick them up...I think it will be later in October till I can put them in, but we can't hunt on Sundays in PA so it gives me a little time to do them....I am putting them on the edge of a really nice food plot, but I don't think the deer will be too weirded out by 7 new trees and cages...plus right around then the rut will be starting to crank up so I'm thinking as long as a few does stay around there will be bucks

He is keeping NWT as that has the SEO , meta tag, & browsing history that creates his ranking in terms of search on GOOGLE. He will have to merge the 2 at some point.

Wow that sounds great, and a real money saver ....shippings around $50 for me. Yeah where I live hunting wasn't allowed on Sundays either, however they changed it 3-4 years ago to where you CAN hunt on Private property on Sundays. If that was the case here I'd plant on a Sunday as well in Oct and not worry about it.

Wolf River growing like weeds here for us.

Might have to try one of those...where did you get those Blue Hill?
Not BH. (Maybe BH has WR now???) We got one from St. Lawrence Nursery (SLN) on Antonovka rootstock, and one from Cummins on B-118. The Antonovka-rooted tree will get to 30 ft. tall or better. Some of our B-118 rooted trees are leaning, so personally - I won't buy any more B-118 rooted trees. Antonovka, P-18, MM-111, or seedling roots for us going forward. If any of our newer (post 2012) trees fail or get wrecked by bears - I'll buy trees on one of the roots I just mentioned. Those are all straight and seem to be rooted in the ground really well.

Wolf River makes a BIG apple compared to most other varieties. Research online to get a better idea of WR.
